2. Setup and Installation

Proper installation is crucial for the safe and efficient operation of your BAFANG motor. Please follow these guidelines carefully.

2.1 Dropout Compatibility

Ensure your bicycle frame has the correct dropout size for the motor type you are installing.

  • Front Hub Motors: Typically fit 100mm front dropout sizes (compatible with 97-103mm).
  • Rear Hub Motors: Compatible with various rear dropout sizes, including 135mm, 138mm (fitting 135-142mm), and 178mm (fitting 175-180mm).
  • All motors feature a 10mm axle diameter.

2.2 Brake and Cassette Compatibility

Most BAFANG hub motors are compatible with both disc brakes and V-brakes. Rear hub motors are designed to fit cassettes up to 10-speed.

Once installed, your BAFANG motor operates as part of your e-bike system. Refer to your e-bike's main controller and display manual for specific power-on, assist level selection, and throttle (if applicable) operation.

  • Power On/Off: Typically controlled via the e-bike's display unit.
  • Assist Levels: Adjust pedal assist levels through the display to control motor output.
  • Speed: Max speeds vary by motor model and local regulations (e.g., 40-45 KM/h or 45-50 KM/h).
  • Operating Temperature: Ensure operation within the specified range of -20°C to 45°C.

4. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your BAFANG motor.

  • Cleaning: Keep the motor housing clean from dirt and debris. Use a damp cloth; avoid high-pressure washing directly on the motor.
  • Connections: Periodically check all electrical connections, especially the 9-PIN motor cable, to ensure they are secure and free from corrosion.
  • Waterproofing: The motor has an IPX5 waterproof rating, meaning it is protected against low-pressure water jets from any direction. However, avoid submerging the motor in water.
  • Noise: The motor is designed for low noise operation (<55dB). If unusual noises occur, consult the troubleshooting section or contact support.
  • Spokes: Ensure spokes are properly tensioned, especially after initial installation and during regular bike maintenance.

5. Troubleshooting

    • Ensure the battery is charged and properly connected.
