3. Device Overview and Setup

3.1 Button Introduction

  • ESC Button: Returns to the previous screen.
  • I/M Button: Provides quick access to I/M readiness status for emission checks.

3.2 Initial Setup and Language Selection

3.3 Connecting to a Vehicle

The KW470 connects to your vehicle via the OBD2 16-pin connector. For battery testing, use the provided clamp clip cable.

  1. Locate your vehicle's OBD2 port, typically under the dashboard on the driver's side.
  2. Connect the KW470's diagnostic cable to the vehicle's OBD2 port.
  3. If performing a battery test, connect the red clamp to the positive (+) battery terminal and the black clamp to the negative (-) battery terminal.
  4. The device will power on automatically once connected to the vehicle's OBD2 port or battery.

4.1 Full System Diagnostic Scanner for Ford Series

The KW470 offers comprehensive diagnostics for Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury vehicles, covering up to 90 different functions. The operation steps are similar to an original dealer-level diagnostic tool.

4.2 Universal Car OBDII Diagnostic Scanner

For all vehicles manufactured after 1996 that support the OBDII EOBD protocol, the KW470 can perform standard engine system diagnostics.

  • Read Stored Codes: Retrieves Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) from the vehicle's control modules.
  • Clear Trouble Codes: Clears DTCs and turns off the Check Engine Light (MIL).
  • Read Freeze Frame: Displays a snapshot of sensor values when a DTC was set.

4.3 Car Battery Tester

The KW470 includes a battery tester for 12V car batteries, supporting 100-2000CCA. It can perform battery health, cranking system, and charging system tests.

4.5 DTC Lookup

The DTC Lookup function helps you understand diagnostic trouble codes without needing to search online.

  1. From the Diagnostic Menu, select 'DTC Lookup'.
  2. Input the DTC code using the selection buttons.
  3. Press 'OK' to confirm and view the definition.

5. Maintenance

5.1 Software Update
