4. Setup
Careful assembly and wiring are crucial for the proper function and safety of your FPV drone. Always double-check connections before powering on.
4.1. Mounting the Stack
- Mount the 80A 4in1 ESC to your drone frame using the provided M3 screws and silicone grommets. Ensure the orientation is correct (usually indicated by an arrow or specific pad labels). The mounting holes are 30.5x30.5mm.
- Connect the F722 Flight Controller to the 4in1 ESC using the supplied ribbon cable. This cable typically handles signal, telemetry, and power between the two boards.
- Secure the FC on top of the ESC using the remaining M3 screws and silicone grommets. Ensure the FC is also correctly oriented.

4.2. Wiring Diagram and Connections
Refer to the detailed image below for specific pad layouts and connection points on the F722 Flight Controller. Proper soldering techniques are essential. Use large pads for easier soldering, especially for beginners.

- Power Connection: Solder the main battery lead (XT60/XT90) to the large BAT+ and BAT- pads on the ESC. Solder the included 1000uF capacitor across the main battery pads (positive to BAT+, negative to BAT-) to filter power noise.
- Motor Connections: Solder your drone's motor wires to the corresponding motor pads (M1-M8) on the 4in1 ESC. Ensure correct motor rotation direction will be configured in Betaflight.
- Receiver Connection: Connect your receiver (e.g., SBUS, Crossfire, ELRS) to one of the available UART ports on the FC. Typically, this involves connecting the receiver's signal wire to an RX pad (e.g., RX1, RX2, etc.), GND to a ground pad, and VCC to a 5V pad.
- Video Transmitter (VTX) & Camera Connection: Connect your FPV camera to the CAM-IN, GND, and 5V pads. Connect your VTX to the VTX-OUT, GND, and 5V/10V pads (depending on VTX voltage requirement). The FC provides 5V/2A and 10V/2A BECs.
- DJI/Vista Digital FPV System: The FC supports DJI/Vista with a dedicated 6-pin connector. Connect your digital FPV system to this port for integrated video and control.
- GPS/Other Peripherals: Connect other peripherals like GPS, LED strips, or buzzers to the appropriate UARTs, 5V/3.3V, and GND pads as needed.
4.3. Firmware Flashing (Betaflight)
- Download and install the latest Betaflight Configurator software on your computer.
- Connect the FC to your computer via a USB-C cable.
- In Betaflight Configurator, navigate to the 'Firmware Flasher' tab.
- Select 'SOLOGOODF722' as the board target.
- Choose the latest stable firmware version.
- Click 'Load Firmware [Online]' and then 'Flash Firmware'.
- After flashing, go to the 'CLI' tab and type 'defaults' then 'save' to load default settings.
- Proceed with basic configuration in Betaflight (ports, receiver, modes, OSD, motor direction, etc.).
5. Operating Instructions
Once the stack is correctly installed and configured in Betaflight, you can proceed with operating your FPV drone.
- Pre-Flight Check: Always perform a visual inspection of your drone before each flight. Check all wiring, propeller tightness, and battery connection.
- Arming: Arm your drone using the configured switch on your radio transmitter. Ensure you are in a safe area, away from people and obstacles, before arming.
- Flight Modes: Utilize the flight modes configured in Betaflight (e.g., Acro, Angle, Horizon) according to your flying style and skill level.
- OSD Usage: The On-Screen Display (OSD) provides real-time flight data (battery voltage, current, flight time, RSSI, etc.) directly in your FPV goggles. Customize OSD elements in Betaflight.
- Disarming: Always disarm your drone immediately after landing or in case of an emergency.
6. Maintenance
Regular maintenance helps prolong the life of your FPV components.
- Cleaning: Keep the FC and ESC clean from dust, dirt, and debris. Use compressed air or a soft brush. Avoid using liquids directly on the electronics.
- Inspection: Periodically inspect all solder joints and wiring for any signs of damage, corrosion, or loose connections.
- Firmware Updates: Keep your Betaflight FC firmware and BLHeli_S ESC firmware updated to benefit from the latest features and bug fixes.
- Physical Damage: After any crash, thoroughly inspect the boards for cracks, bent pins, or damaged components.
7. Troubleshooting
Here are some common issues and their potential solutions:
- No Power to FC/ESC:
- Check main battery connection and polarity.
- Inspect for short circuits on the boards or wiring.
- Verify the main power lead is properly soldered.
- Motors Not Spinning:
- Ensure the drone is armed.
- Check motor connections to the ESC.
- Verify motor protocol (DShot) is correctly configured in Betaflight.
- Check ESC calibration (if applicable) and individual motor functionality in Betaflight's motor tab.
- No Video/OSD Not Displaying:
- Check camera and VTX connections to the FC.
- Ensure VTX is powered and on the correct frequency.
- Verify OSD is enabled and configured in Betaflight.
- FC Not Connecting to Betaflight:
- Ensure correct USB cable is used (data cable, not just charging).
- Install necessary DFU drivers (ImpulseRC Driver Fixer can help).
- Try a different USB port or computer.
- Unstable Flight:
- Check for loose propellers or motor mounts.
- Verify PID tuning in Betaflight.
- Ensure the FC is soft-mounted to reduce vibrations.
- Check for correct FC orientation in Betaflight.
8. User Tips
- Soft Mounting: Always use the provided silicone grommets for soft mounting both the FC and ESC. This significantly reduces vibrations reaching the gyroscope, leading to cleaner flight performance.
- Capacitor Installation: Do not skip installing the included low ESR capacitor on the main battery leads of the ESC. This helps filter electrical noise and protects your electronics from voltage spikes, especially with higher cell count batteries (e.g., 6S-8S).
- Large Solder Pads: The design incorporates large solder pads, making it easier for both beginners and experienced builders to achieve strong, reliable solder joints. Take advantage of this feature for robust connections.
- Betaflight Configuration: Spend time understanding Betaflight's configuration options. Proper setup of PID tuning, rates, filters, and OSD elements will greatly enhance your flying experience.
- Motor Direction: Always verify motor direction in Betaflight's motor tab before installing propellers. Incorrect motor direction can lead to crashes.
