5. Setup Instructions
- Unpacking: Carefully remove all components from the packaging. It is recommended to record an unboxing video for documentation purposes.
- Placement: Place the SUGON S-196 main unit on a stable, flat, and heat-resistant surface.
- Connect Power: Insert the provided power cord into the power socket on the rear of the unit and plug the other end into a suitable power outlet (AC100-240V, 50/60Hz).
- Install Dormancy Bracket: If desired, place the separate dormancy bracket near the unit for convenient hot air gun storage.
- Prepare for Measurement:
- For Soldering Iron: Ensure the temperature test probes are correctly inserted into the soldering station temperature test site.
- For Hot Air Gun: Position the adjustable handle bracket to securely hold your hot air gun nozzle over the air gun temperature testing site.
- For External K-type: Connect the external K-type thermocouple cord to the "External K" input port on the front panel.
6. Operating Instructions
- Power On: Flip the power switch on the rear panel to the "ON" position. The digital display will illuminate.
- Select Measurement Mode: Rotate the "Hot Air Gun/Soldering Iron" switch knob on the front panel to select the desired measurement mode:
- IRON: For soldering iron temperature measurement.
- HEAT GUN: For hot air gun temperature measurement.
- EXTERNAL K: For external K-type thermocouple measurement.
- Temperature Unit Conversion: Press the "°C/°F" button to switch between Celsius and Fahrenheit display units.
- Peak Hold Function: Press the "MAX HOLD" button to activate the peak hold function. The display will show the highest temperature recorded until the button is pressed again to deactivate.
- Measuring Soldering Iron Temperature:
- Select "IRON" mode.
- Gently press the soldering iron tip onto the temperature test probe at the "Soldering station temperature test site" using the putter.
- Read the stable temperature displayed on the screen.
- Measuring Hot Air Gun Temperature:
- Select "HEAT GUN" mode.
- Place the hot air gun nozzle into the "Air gun temperature testing site" and secure it with the adjustable handle bracket.
- Activate the hot air gun and allow the temperature to stabilize.
- Read the temperature displayed on the screen.

- Measuring with External K-type Thermocouple:
- Select "EXTERNAL K" mode.
- Connect the external K-type thermocouple cable to the "External K" input.
- Place the tip of the external thermocouple at the desired measurement point.
- Read the temperature displayed on the screen.

- Power Off: After use, flip the power switch on the rear panel to the "OFF" position.
7. Maintenance
- Cleaning: Wipe the unit with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Thermocouple Care: The temperature test probes and K-type thermocouples are delicate. Handle them with care to avoid bending or breaking. Replace them if they show signs of wear or damage to ensure accurate readings.
- Storage: Store the unit in a dry, dust-free environment when not in use.
