The Baofeng FR-22A is a versatile FRS/PMR two-way radio designed for reliable communication. 3. Product Overview

4. Setup
4.1 Battery Installation
The FR-22A radio can be powered by either a Li-ion rechargeable battery pack or 3 AA alkaline batteries. Ensure the radio is turned off before installing or replacing batteries.
- For Li-ion Battery Pack: Insert the rechargeable battery pack into the battery compartment, ensuring proper alignment. Secure the battery cover.
- For AA Alkaline Batteries: Open the battery compartment and insert 3 AA alkaline batteries, observing the correct polarity (+/-). Secure the battery cover.

4.2 Charging the Radio
To charge the Li-ion battery pack:
- Connect the Type-C USB charging cable to the radio's charging port.
- Connect the other end of the cable to a compatible USB power source (e.g., AC adapter, computer USB port).
- The battery indicator on the LCD display will show charging status.
- Once fully charged, disconnect the cable.
Note: AA alkaline batteries are not rechargeable within the radio.
4.3 Attaching Accessories
- Belt Clip: Attach the belt clip to the back of the radio using the provided screws for easy carrying.
- Lanyard: Thread the lanyard through the designated loop on the radio for secure handling.
- Headset: Plug the 2-pin Kenwood compatible headset into the earpiece jack for private listening and hands-free communication.
5. Operating Instructions
5.1 Power On/Off
- To Power On: Press and hold the Power/Call (CALL) button until the LCD display lights up.
- To Power Off: Press and hold the Power/Call (CALL) button until the display turns off.
5.2 Adjusting Volume
Use the Up (▲) and Down (▼) buttons to adjust the listening volume. The volume level will be displayed on the LCD.
5.3 Selecting a Channel
The FR-22A supports 22 FRS channels. To select a channel:
- Press the MENU button once. The channel number on the display will flash.
- Use the Up (▲) or Down (▼) buttons to select your desired channel (1-22).
- Press the MENU button again to confirm the selection.
5.4 Transmitting and Receiving
- To Transmit: Press and hold the PTT button. Speak clearly into the microphone. The TX icon will appear on the display.

5.5 Privacy Codes (CTCSS/DCS)
The radio supports 155 privacy codes (50 CTCSS and 105 DCS) to minimize interference from other users on the same channel. To set a privacy code:

VOX allows for hands-free transmission. When VOX is enabled, the radio transmits automatically when you speak into the microphone.
- Press the MENU button multiple times until the VOX setting appears.
- Use the Up (▲) or Down (▼) buttons to select a VOX sensitivity level (1-3, with 3 being most sensitive) or turn it OFF.
- Press MENU to confirm.
5.7 NOAA Weather Channels
The FR-22A can receive 12 NOAA weather channels to keep you informed about weather conditions.
- To Access Weather Channels: Press the Weather/Monitor (MONI) button. The radio will switch to weather mode.
- To Scan Weather Channels: While in weather mode, press the SCAN button to scan through available NOAA channels.
- To Exit Weather Mode: Press the Weather/Monitor (MONI) button again.

- Call Alert: Press the CALL button briefly to send an audible alert tone to other radios on the same channel.
- Scan Function: Press the SCAN button to scan through active channels. Press again to stop scanning.
- Keypad Lock: Press and hold the MENU button to lock/unlock the keypad, preventing accidental changes.
- LED Flashlight: Press the Flashlight button to turn the LED flashlight on/off.
- Roger Beep Tone: An audible tone that signals the end of your transmission. This can usually be enabled/disabled in the menu settings.

6. Maintenance
6.1 Battery Care
- Always use the recommended battery types (Li-ion rechargeable pack or 3 AA alkaline batteries).
- For rechargeable batteries, avoid overcharging or completely draining the battery to prolong its lifespan.
- If storing the radio for an extended period, remove alkaline batteries to prevent leakage.
- Store Li-ion battery packs partially charged (around 50%) in a cool, dry place.
