3. Operating Instructions

Once the WIFI module is successfully installed and configured with the SmartESS app, you can begin remote monitoring of your solar hybrid inverter. The app provides access to various data points and functionalities:

  • Real-time Data: View current power generation, battery status, and system performance.
  • Historical Data: Access past performance records and energy production statistics.
  • System Status: Monitor the operational status of your inverter and identify any alerts or errors.
  • Remote Control (if supported by inverter): Some inverters may allow basic remote control functions through the app. Refer to your inverter's manual for details.

4. Maintenance

  • Keep the WIFI module clean and free from dust. Use a soft, dry cloth for cleaning.
  • Ensure the module is placed in a location with adequate ventilation to prevent overheating.
  • Regularly check the LED indicators on the module to confirm normal operation.
  • Ensure the communication cable is securely connected to both the module and the inverter.
  • Periodically check the SmartESS app for any available firmware updates for the module to ensure optimal performance and security.

5. Troubleshooting

5.1 LED Indicator Status

The WIFI module features several LED indicators to show its operational status:

  • PWR (Power): Indicates if the module is receiving power. Should be ON when powered.
  • COM (Communication): Indicates communication with the inverter. Should blink or be ON when communicating.
  • NET (Network): Indicates Wi-Fi network connection status. Should be ON or blinking when connected to Wi-Fi.
  • SRV (Server): Indicates connection to the remote monitoring server. Should be ON or blinking when connected to the server.

5.2 Common Issues and Solutions

  • Module not powering on (PWR LED off): Check the connection to the inverter's COMM port. Ensure the inverter is powered on.
  • No communication with inverter (COM LED off/not blinking): Ensure the RJ45 cable is securely connected. Verify the inverter's COMM port is active.
  • Cannot connect to Wi-Fi (NET LED off/blinking erratically):
    • Verify the Wi-Fi password entered in the app is correct.
    • Ensure the module is within range of your Wi-Fi router.
    • Check your router settings; ensure it's broadcasting a 2.4GHz network (if applicable).
    • Try restarting your Wi-Fi router and the inverter.
  • Cannot connect to server (SRV LED off/blinking erratically):
    • Ensure your home internet connection is active.
    • Check if the SmartESS app or server is experiencing issues (check app notifications or support channels).
    • Verify network settings in the app are correct.
  • App not displaying data: Ensure the datalogger is correctly added to your account in the SmartESS app. Check if the module has a stable connection to both Wi-Fi and the server.
