Basic Bread Making

The simple four-step process for making bread.
- **Insert Kneading Paddle**: Place the kneading paddle onto the shaft inside the baking pan.
- **Add Ingredients**: Add ingredients to the baking pan in the order specified by your recipe (typically liquids first, then dry ingredients, with yeast last). Ensure ingredients are measured accurately.
- **Place Pan**: Insert the baking pan into the bread machine and close the lid.
- **Select Program**: Press the 'MENU' button to cycle through the 29 available programs until you reach your desired setting (e.g., 'BASIC WHITE', 'GLUTEN FREE').
- **Select Loaf Size**: Press the 'LOAF SIZE' button to choose between 1LB, 1.5LB, or 2LB.
- **Select Crust Color**: Press the 'CRUST' button to select light, medium, or dark crust.
- **Start**: Press the 'START/STOP' button to begin the bread-making process. The machine will automatically mix, knead, rise, and bake.
- **Finish**: Once the cycle is complete, the machine will beep. Press and hold the 'START/STOP' button to stop the program. Carefully remove the baking pan using oven mitts.
- **Cooling**: Invert the pan to release the bread onto a wire rack to cool completely before slicing. Use the hook to remove the kneading paddle if it remains in the bread.
Customizing the HOME MADE Menu (#29)
Program #29, 'HOME MADE', allows for fully customizable cycle-level programming. You can specify and store each bread-making cycle time for preheat, knead, rest, rise, bake, and keep warm stages.

Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Bread does not rise | Expired yeast, incorrect water temperature, too much salt/sugar. | Check yeast expiration, use lukewarm water (105-115°F / 40-46°C), ensure correct ingredient measurements. |
| Bread is too dense | Too much flour, not enough liquid, old yeast. | Measure flour accurately (spoon into cup, level off), ensure correct liquid amount, use fresh yeast. |
| Bread collapses in middle | Too much liquid, too much yeast, high humidity. | Reduce liquid slightly, reduce yeast slightly, adjust recipe for humidity. |
| Kneading paddle stuck in bread | Common occurrence. | Use the provided hook tool to carefully remove the paddle after the bread has cooled slightly. |
| Machine beeps continuously / Error code | Overheating, internal malfunction. | Unplug the machine and let it cool down for at least 30 minutes. If problem persists, contact customer support. |

User Tips
- **Ingredient Temperature**: Ensure all ingredients, especially liquids, are at room temperature unless the recipe specifies otherwise. Cold ingredients can inhibit yeast activation.
- **Measuring Accuracy**: Use proper measuring cups and spoons. For flour, spoon it into the measuring cup and level it off with a straight edge; do not scoop directly from the bag as this can compact the flour.
- **Yeast Placement**: Always add yeast last, on top of the dry ingredients, away from liquids and salt, to prevent premature activation.
- **Gluten-Free Baking**: When using the Gluten Free setting, ensure all ingredients are specifically labeled gluten-free. Gluten-free flours often require different liquid ratios, so follow recipes carefully.
- **Experiment with Custom Program**: The 'HOME MADE' program is excellent for fine-tuning recipes or adapting family favorites. Keep a log of your custom settings for consistent results.
