1. Introduction

The AUTOTOP Wireless CarPlay & Android Auto AI Box is designed to seamlessly integrate your smartphone's features into your BMW's NBT infotainment system. This module provides wireless access to CarPlay, Android Auto, Autolink, and Airplay, enhancing your driving experience with navigation, music, communication, and voice control capabilities while retaining all original car functions.

2. Compatibility

This AI Box is compatible with BMW vehicles equipped with the NBT system. Please confirm your car's system and year before installation.

4. Setup and Installation

The installation of the AUTOTOP AI Box is designed to be non-destructive, integrating with your original car system. Professional installation is recommended.

4.1. Main Unit Connections

  1. WiFi Antenna
  2. Connect the Original Car Power
  3. Connect the plug of the Original Car Power Cable
  4. Connect the socket of the original car AUX OUT

  7. Stick the External MIC somewhere above the center console
  8. 12V OUT/Rear view camera 12V power supply cable
  9. BACK/Rearview camera inspection cable

4.2. Detailed Wiring Diagram

4.3. Reverse Camera Wiring

The AI Box supports original and aftermarket reverse cameras, including 360 cameras and front view camera DVR (CVBS input).

5. Operating Instructions

5.1. Wireless Connectivity

After the initial pairing, the AI Box will automatically connect to your smartphone for Wireless CarPlay or Android Auto.

5.2. Dual System Switching

Easily switch between the original BMW NBT system and the CarPlay/Android Auto interface. Long press the "MENU" button on your car's iDrive controller to toggle between systems.

5.3. Voice Control

Utilize intelligent voice assistants for navigation, phone calls, music playback, and more, keeping your hands on the wheel and eyes on the road.

5.4. Supported Functions and Software

The AI Box supports a wide range of applications and retains original car functionalities:

  • Navigation: Google Maps, Waze, Apple Map.
  • Multimedia: Music, Video playback, Airplay, Autolink for screen mirroring.
  • Communication: Phone calls, messages.
  • Original Car Functions: Keeps the original vehicle system, supports steering wheel control, original car FM player, maintains original stereo sound, supports original reverse camera, and electronic handbrake.

6. Maintenance

The AUTOTOP AI Box requires minimal maintenance. Keep the unit and connections free from dust and moisture. Avoid exposing the device to extreme temperatures or direct sunlight for prolonged periods. Ensure all cables are securely connected to prevent signal loss or intermittent functionality.

7. Troubleshooting

  • No display/intermittent connection: Check all wiring connections, especially the LVDS cables, to ensure they are firmly seated. Verify that your BMW's NBT system is correctly identified and compatible.
  • Reverse camera not working (manual gear cars): Manual gear cars may have insufficient power supply for the camera. It is recommended to purchase and install a voltage stabilizer to ensure stable power to the camera. Refer to Figure 4.4 for wiring with a voltage regulator.
  • No sound: Ensure the AUX OUT connection is correctly made and selected as the audio source in your car's original system.
  • Voice control not responding: Check the external microphone connection and ensure it is placed in an optimal location for clear audio input.

9. User Tips

  • For manual gear cars experiencing issues with the reverse camera, consider installing a voltage stabilizer to ensure a consistent power supply.
  • Always double-check your BMW's system (CCC, CIC, NBT, EVO) and year before purchasing and installing to ensure full compatibility.
  • After the initial setup, your phone should automatically connect to the AI Box when you enter the vehicle, providing a seamless experience.
