3.2. Device Activation

Before powering on the protection board, ensure the balance cable is properly connected, and the P- and B- terminals are correctly wired. Verify that the protection board is securely fixed to the battery pack. Incorrect connections or loose fixing can lead to abnormal operation or damage.

The protection board does not have a power-on control switch. It is designed for charging activation mode, meaning the charger voltage must be 2V higher than the battery voltage to activate the board after assembly. Alternatively, the board can be activated by pressing a button (if a display screen and button are connected) or via the display interface.

3.3. Installation Method

Handle the packaging box and protection board gently. Avoid impacts or damage during unpacking. The JK-BxAxxS-15P/20P series protection board is suitable for 7-24 series lithium battery packs. Wiring methods vary depending on the number of cells.

4. Operation

4.1. Active Equalization

The BMS uses active equalization to transfer energy from higher-voltage cells to lower-voltage cells, ensuring voltage balance with minimal energy loss. Before using, set basic battery parameters (cell count, capacity, trigger differential pressure, voltage/current calibration) in the JIKONG BMS APP. The default balance current is 1A/2A, adjustable based on battery capacity (recommended not to exceed 0.2C of battery capacity). The balancing function automatically activates when the voltage difference between any two strings exceeds the set value and deactivates when it falls below the set value. This function can be toggled ON/OFF in the APP.

4.2. GPS and Display Interface

The protection board includes reserved GPS and display interfaces. Users can connect an optional GPS module for battery location tracking and a dedicated display screen to view battery information, customizing according to their needs.

4.3. Heating Function

The BMS supports an optional heating function to prevent battery performance degradation in low temperatures. It uses a resistance heater or heating film with a designed current of 4A. This function can be controlled via the BMS control page in the APP. For safety, it is recommended to series a normally closed temperature control switch (45°C to 65°C) in the heating circuit to prevent thermal runaway.

4.4. Protection Features

  • Charge Overvoltage Protection (COP): Standard feature. Users set single overcharge protection voltage and recovery voltage in the APP. If any battery string exceeds the set voltage during charging, the BMS stops charging. Charging resumes when all cell voltages drop below the recovery voltage.
  • Discharge Undervoltage Protection (DUP): Standard feature. Users set undervoltage protection voltage, recovery voltage, and automatic shutdown voltage in the APP. If any battery string falls below the set undervoltage voltage during discharge, the BMS stops discharging. Discharge resumes when all cell voltages rise above the recovery voltage. The BMS automatically shuts down if any cell voltage drops below the automatic shutdown voltage.
  • Charge Overcurrent Protection (COC): Standard feature. Users set continuous charging current, overcurrent delay, and recovery time in the APP. If charging current exceeds the set value for the specified delay, charging stops. Charging resumes after the recovery time.
  • Discharge Overcurrent Protection (DOC): Standard feature. Users set continuous discharge current, overcurrent delay, and recovery time in the APP. If discharge current exceeds the set value for the specified delay, discharging stops. Discharging resumes after the recovery time. Note: Maximum continuous discharge current should not exceed the nominal current (150A/200A).
  • Overtemperature Protection (OTP): Standard feature for both charge and discharge. Users set overtemperature protection and recovery temperatures in the APP. If battery temperature exceeds the set value, the BMS stops the respective operation (charging or discharging). Operation resumes when the temperature falls below the recovery value.
  • Low Temperature Protection (LTP): Standard feature for charging. Users set low temperature protection and recovery temperatures in the APP. If battery temperature falls below the set value, charging stops. Charging resumes when the temperature rises above the recovery value. Heating function is recommended for extremely cold areas.
  • Short Circuit Protection (SCP): Standard feature. Users can set short circuit protection delay (us) and recovery time (S) in the APP. If a short circuit occurs, the BMS will protect the battery. For initial connection issues (e.g., charger peak current, load capacitance), increasing the delay can help prevent false triggers.

4.5. Discharge Precharge Function

The BMS includes a discharge precharge function with a default time of 5 seconds. This function can be enabled or disabled, and the precharge time adjusted, via the APP.

4.6. Emergency Switch

The emergency switch function provides a 30-minute emergency operation window in case of issues like over-temperature, over-discharge, or over-charge. Activating it via the APP allows temporary charge/discharge operation, even if cell voltages reach automatic shutdown levels, to prevent critical situations like being stranded.

4.7. Intelligent Sleep

The intelligent sleep function allows the BMS to enter a low-power state when idle (charging/discharging current less than 1A for 26 consecutive hours) to conserve battery energy. It can be reactivated by pressing a button or connecting a charger.

4.8. Communication Function

The BMS supports optional CAN/RS485 communication. Users can select the desired protocol and configure the address and communication parameters via the APP's BMS control page. Refer to the Jikong Protection Board communication protocol document for specific details.

5. Maintenance

Regularly inspect all wiring connections for tightness and signs of wear. Keep the BMS unit clean and free from dust and moisture. The BMS is designed with various self-protection features (overvoltage, overcurrent, overtemperature, etc.) to minimize the need for manual intervention. If a protection event occurs, the system will attempt to recover automatically once conditions return to normal. For persistent issues, refer to the troubleshooting section or contact support.

6. Troubleshooting

The JIKONG BMS is equipped with advanced protection features to automatically manage and recover from various abnormal conditions:

  • Overvoltage/Undervoltage: The BMS will stop charging/discharging and resume once cell voltages return to safe levels.
  • Overcurrent: Charging or discharging will be halted if current exceeds limits for a set duration, resuming after a recovery period.
  • Overtemperature/Low Temperature: Operations will pause if temperatures are outside safe ranges and resume when conditions normalize.
  • Short Circuit: The BMS provides immediate protection. If a short circuit is triggered upon initial connection, verify external wiring and consider adjusting the short circuit protection delay in the APP if necessary, as high inrush currents from chargers or loads can sometimes cause false triggers.

For detailed parameter settings and adjustments related to these protections, please refer to the 'Parameter Setting' section in the APP or the full user manual PDF.
