1. Introduction

The Satlink WS-6916 is a high-definition satellite meter designed for efficient and accurate satellite signal detection. It features a 3.5-inch TFT LCD screen and is fully compliant with DVB-S/DVB-S2 and MPEG-2/MPEG-4 standards, including H.264 hardware decoding. This device provides digital measurements for signal strength and quality, making satellite installation and alignment straightforward.

2. Package Contents

3. Setup

3.1 Charging the Battery

The WS-6916 includes a 7.4V/3000mAh Li-ion battery. Before initial use, fully charge the device using the provided 12V Power Charger. Connect the charger to the DC input port on the side of the device and plug it into a power outlet. The 'CHARGE' indicator light will illuminate during charging.

3.2 Connecting to LNB

Connect the LNB cable from your satellite dish to the 'LNB IN' port on the WS-6916. The device provides LNB power (13V/18V) and 22KHz control switch band automatically. The device also features LNB short protection.

3.3 Powering On/Off

Locate the power switch on the side of the device. Toggle the switch to the 'ON' position to power on the satellite meter. To power off, toggle the switch to the 'OFF' position.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Menu Navigation

Use the directional keys (Up, Down, Left, Right) and the 'OK' button to navigate through the on-screen menu. The 'MENU' button typically returns to the main menu, and 'EXIT' navigates back or exits a function.

4.2 Satellite Finding

From the main menu, select 'Satellite Find'. You can then choose from various scanning options:

  • Auto Scan: Automatically searches for available transponders and channels.
  • Blind Scan: Performs a comprehensive search without prior transponder information.
  • Manual Scan: Allows you to input specific transponder frequencies and parameters for a targeted scan.
  • NIT Scan: Utilizes Network Information Table for scanning.

The device will display signal strength and quality. A sound and light alarm will activate when a signal is locked, aiding in precise dish alignment.

4.3 Angle Calculation

The WS-6916 can automatically calculate the Azimuth (AZ) and Elevation (EL) angles for satellite dish alignment, simplifying the setup process.

4.4 DISEQC Support

The device supports DISEQC 1.0/1.1/1.2 protocols, allowing control of multiple LNBs and satellite switches.

4.5 AV and HDMI Output

The WS-6916 supports AV out/in and HDMI out, enabling you to connect the device to an external display (e.g., TV) for a larger view of the signal information or to play multimedia content.

5. Maintenance

5.1 Software Upgrade

The device's software can be upgraded via the USB port. Refer to the official Satlink website or support documentation for the latest firmware and instructions on how to perform an upgrade.

5.2 Cleaning

Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the device. Do not use liquid cleaners or abrasive materials.

6. Troubleshooting

  • No Signal/Weak Signal: Check all cable connections, ensure the LNB is powered, and verify dish alignment. Adjust the dish slowly while monitoring the signal strength and quality on the meter.
  • Device Not Powering On: Ensure the battery is charged. Connect the power adapter and try again.
  • Screen Issues: If the screen is unresponsive or displays incorrectly, try restarting the device. If the issue persists, contact support.
  • European Satellites: For European satellites, they may need to be added manually from the menu. Navigate to the satellite list and use the options to add new satellites.

8. User Tips

  • ACM Compatibility: While the WS-6916 supports DVB-S2, which is the standard that includes Adaptive Coding and Modulation (ACM), specific ACM signal handling capabilities may vary. If you encounter issues with ACM channels, ensure your firmware is up to date.
  • Manual Satellite Addition: For some regions, particularly in Europe, satellites may need to be added manually through the device's menu. Consult the 'Satellite Installation' or 'System Setting' options to manage satellite lists.
  • Signal Locking Alarm: Pay attention to the integrated sound and light alarm. This feature is highly useful for quickly identifying when a strong signal is acquired, allowing for faster and more accurate dish adjustments.
