4. Setup

4.1 Unboxing and Initial Inspection

Carefully remove all components from the packaging. Inspect them for any signs of damage. Keep the packaging for potential future transport or storage.

Video 4.1: Unboxing and overview of the Bakon BK950C Soldering Station components.

4.2 Connecting Components

  1. Connect the power cord to the main host unit and then to a suitable power outlet (AC100-240V).
  2. Connect the soldering iron handle cable to the corresponding port on the host unit.

4.3 Installing the Heating Core

The BK950C uses a plug-in design for its heating core (C210 type). Proper installation is crucial for functionality.

  1. Ensure the soldering station is powered off and cool.
  2. Gently insert the desired C210 heating core into the soldering iron handle.
  3. Important: You need to fully insert the heater into the handle. A light insertion can cause an error (S-E message) and prevent the core from heating up. Press firmly until it is seated at the bottom.

Refer to the video for a visual guide on installation: Video 4.1 (0:11-0:15) for quick and easy installation, and Video 4.1 (0:50-0:58) for demonstrating correct insertion.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Powering On and Initial Heat-up

  1. After connecting all components, flip the red power switch on the host unit to the 'ON' position.
  2. The digital display will show the current temperature. The BK950C features a 3-second fast heat-up time.

See the fast heat-up demonstration in the video: Video 4.1 (0:16-0:22).

5.2 Temperature Adjustment

The BK950C offers 5-speed temperature control for various soldering needs. Use the buttons next to the digital display to cycle through the preset temperatures.

  • P1: 250°C / 480°F
  • P2: 300°C / 570°F
  • P3: 350°C / 660°F
  • P4: 400°C / 750°F
  • P5: 450°C / 840°F

Observe temperature adjustment in the video: Video 4.1 (0:23-0:32).

5.3 Soldering

Once the desired temperature is reached, you can begin soldering. The integrated core design allows for rapid tin soldering.

A demonstration of rapid tin soldering is available in the video: Video 4.1 (1:21-1:37).

6. Maintenance

6.1 Cleaning the Soldering Tip

Regularly clean the soldering tip using the provided cleaning sponge. Dampen the sponge slightly before use. This helps remove oxidation and old solder, ensuring efficient heat transfer and prolonging tip life.

6.2 Replacing the Heating Core

Thanks to the plug-in design, replacing the heating core is straightforward:

  1. Ensure the unit is powered off and the heating core has cooled down completely.
  2. Gently pull the old heating core out of the handle.
  3. Insert the new heating core, ensuring it is fully seated as described in Section 4.3.
