4. Setup Guide

4.1 Power Supply

The camera is powered by an integrated solar panel and a built-in 2200mAh lithium battery. For additional power or backup, you can insert 4xAA batteries (not included) into the designated compartment. The solar panel provides continuous charging to the built-in battery when exposed to sunlight, ensuring long operational periods.

4.2 Micro SD Card Installation

Insert a Micro SD card (up to 256GB, not included) into the Micro SD card slot. Ensure the card is inserted correctly until it clicks into place. The camera supports loop recording, which means the oldest files will be overwritten once the card is full.

4.3 Mounting the Camera

The camera can be mounted using the provided strap or a standard tripod. Choose a location that offers a clear view of the area you wish to monitor and ensures the solar panel receives adequate sunlight.

  • Strap Mounting: Thread the mounting strap through the slots on the back of the camera and secure it around a tree or pole.
  • Tripod Mounting: Use the tripod mount thread located at the bottom of the camera to attach it to a tripod (not included).

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Basic Operation

  1. Power On: Locate the power switch (usually inside the camera housing) and turn it to the 'ON' position.
  2. Mode Selection: Use the internal controls to select your desired operating mode: Camera (for photos), Video (for videos), Camera & Video (for both), or Timelapse.
  3. Settings Adjustment: Access the menu via the 2.0-inch TFT display to adjust settings such as image/video resolution, PIR interval, motion detection sensitivity (Low/Medium/High), and timer functions.
  4. Password Protection: Set a 4-digit PIN code for security to prevent unauthorized access to your camera's settings and footage.

5.2 Motion Detection and Recording

The camera utilizes a Passive Infrared (PIR) sensor with a 120-degree detection range and up to 20 meters (65 feet) distance. When motion is detected, the camera triggers rapidly (as fast as 0.3 seconds) to capture images or video based on your selected mode.

5.3 Night Vision

The HC-601A-Li is equipped with 4 high-power infrared (IR) LEDs, providing advanced night vision capabilities. This allows the camera to capture clear images and videos in low-light or complete darkness without disturbing wildlife.

5.4 Loop Recording

When the Micro SD card reaches its full capacity, the camera's loop recording function will automatically overwrite the oldest footage to make space for new recordings. This ensures continuous operation without manual intervention.

5.5 Viewing Footage

You can view captured images and videos directly on the camera's 2.0-inch TFT display or by connecting the camera to a computer using the provided USB cable. Alternatively, remove the Micro SD card and insert it into a compatible card reader to access files on a computer or other device.

6. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Regularly clean the camera lens and PIR sensor window with a soft, dry cloth to ensure optimal performance. Avoid using abrasive cleaners.
  • Battery Check: Periodically check the battery level, especially if the camera is deployed in areas with limited sunlight. Replace AA batteries as needed.
  • SD Card Management: Format the Micro SD card regularly (after backing up important footage) to maintain optimal recording performance and prevent data corruption.
  • Environmental Protection: Although the camera is IP65 waterproof, avoid submerging it in water. Ensure the battery compartment and USB port covers are securely closed to prevent moisture ingress. The camera is designed to operate in temperatures from -20℃ to 60℃.

7. Troubleshooting

7.1 Camera Not Powering On

  • Check if the power switch is in the 'ON' position.
  • Ensure the built-in lithium battery is charged. If not, expose the solar panel to direct sunlight or charge via the USB cable.
  • If using AA batteries, ensure they are inserted correctly and are not depleted.

7.2 No Recordings

  • Verify that a Micro SD card is properly inserted and has sufficient free space.
  • Check the selected operating mode (Camera, Video, etc.).
  • Adjust PIR sensitivity to 'High' if no motion is being detected.
  • Ensure the camera is placed within the PIR detection range (up to 20 meters).
  • Check the PIR interval setting; a longer interval might miss some events.

7.3 Poor Night Vision Quality

  • Ensure there are no obstructions in front of the IR LEDs.
  • Check if the camera's lens is clean.
  • Verify that the camera's batteries have sufficient charge, as low power can affect IR performance.

7.4 Display Issues

  • If the display is blank or flickering, try restarting the camera.
  • Ensure the battery is adequately charged.

8. User Tips

  • Optimal Placement: For best results, position the camera facing north or south to avoid direct sunlight hitting the lens, which can cause overexposure. Place it at a height appropriate for the animals you wish to monitor.
  • Solar Panel Efficiency: Ensure the solar panel is kept clean and free from debris (leaves, snow, etc.) to maximize charging efficiency.
  • Test Before Deployment: Before leaving the camera unattended for extended periods, perform a short test recording to confirm settings are correct and the camera is functioning as expected.
  • SD Card Capacity: While the camera supports up to 256GB, consider using a high-speed (Class 10 or higher) Micro SD card for optimal video recording performance.
