5. Installation Instructions

This section details the installation of the electric fan onto the radiator. Ensure the radiator is clean and ready for fan attachment.

5.1. Electric Fan Installation (Quick Mount Zip Kit)

  1. Prepare the Fan and Radiator: Place the fan on your radiator as if you're ready to install it. Identify the four grooves built into the fan for mounting.
  2. Insert Mount Tabs: Grab the 4 black plastic mount tabs and insert them into the grooves built into the fan. We recommend using the 4 slots that form an X pattern for balanced mounting.
  3. Center the Holes: Center the holes on the mount tabs so you can look through them. The goal is to align them with the thin mesh-like radiator material, centered between the coolant tubes.
  4. Push Plastic Rods: Push a plastic rod through the centered holes. The plastic should pass through the radiator material and between two coolant tubes. It's best if the plastic doesn't touch the coolant tubes.
  5. Secure Tabs (if applicable): Some fans may have two top mount tab slots, two bottom, and one slot on the left and right horizontal side. Use these as needed for a balanced mounting. Use good judgment for other mount points.
  6. Place Foam Pad and Spring: Once your 4 tabs are installed, place a foam pad under each tab hole. Then, grab a spring and place it on the tab.
  7. Push Through Radiator: Push the zip tie-like strap through the radiator. It will pop out on the front or other side of the radiator.
  8. Secure with Clips/Washers: On the front of the radiator, where the black plastic rods of the zip tie-like straps poke out, place another foam pad on each rod. Grab one of your 4 plastic clips or lock washer-like disks. Slide it down the rod and get 2 clicks after it's tight.
  9. Tensioning: The spring on the other side will provide tension to hold the fan firmly but not too tight.
  10. Trim Excess: Cut down the plastic strips so they don't stick out too far. Wire cutters or scissors will work. Your fan is now installed!

5.2. Video Guide: Electric Fan Installation

Video 1: Step-by-step demonstration of installing electric fans onto a radiator using the provided zip tie kit.

After the fan is securely mounted to the radiator, proceed with installing the entire radiator assembly into your Kawasaki ATV according to your vehicle's service manual. Ensure all hoses are properly connected and clamped, and the system is filled with the correct coolant mixture.

6. Operation

The electric cooling fan is designed to activate automatically when the engine coolant reaches a predetermined temperature, ensuring efficient cooling. It will help maintain optimal engine operating temperatures, especially during low-speed operation or in demanding conditions where natural airflow is insufficient.

  • After installation, start the engine and allow it to reach operating temperature.
  • Monitor the temperature gauge to ensure the system is functioning correctly.
  • The fan should cycle on and off as needed to maintain temperature.
  • Check for any leaks around hose connections and the radiator itself.

7. Maintenance

Regular maintenance will prolong the life and efficiency of your radiator and fan.

  • Cleaning: Periodically inspect the radiator fins for debris (mud, leaves, insects). Carefully clean the fins with a soft brush or low-pressure water spray to ensure unobstructed airflow. Avoid high-pressure washers directly on the fins, as this can bend them.
  • Coolant Level: Regularly check the coolant level in the reservoir and top up as necessary with the manufacturer-recommended coolant.
  • Hose Inspection: Inspect all coolant hoses for cracks, leaks, or swelling. Replace any damaged hoses promptly.
  • Fan Operation: Occasionally check that the fan spins freely and activates when the engine gets hot. Listen for unusual noises from the fan motor.
  • Mounting Security: Verify that the fan and radiator remain securely mounted and that all connections are tight.

8. Troubleshooting

Here are some common issues and their potential solutions:

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Engine OverheatingLow coolant level, blocked radiator fins, faulty fan, air in systemCheck coolant, clean fins, inspect fan wiring/operation, bleed air from system
Fan Not ActivatingBlown fuse, faulty wiring, defective temperature sensor, faulty fan motorCheck fuse, inspect wiring, test sensor, test fan motor
