5. Operating Instructions
The HW-UV938 features a 2.4-inch TFT color LCD for easy navigation and display of information.

5.1. Frequency Range Selection
The radio supports a broad range of frequencies for both transmission (Tx) and reception (Rx):
- FM: 64-108MHz (RX)
- SW (Shortwave): 2.3-30MHz (RX AM)
- MW (Medium Wave): 520-1710KHz (RX AM)
- LW (Long Wave): 153-279KHz (RX AM)
- Rx: 18-620MHz, 840-1000MHz
- Tx: 18-32MHz, 136-174MHz, 400-520MHz
You can select the desired work range through the menu. Navigate to 'Basic Settings' and then 'Work Range' to choose between 64-620MHz, 18-64MHz, or 840-1000MHz. The radio will restart after changing the work range.

5.2. Frequency Step Adjustment
The radio offers various frequency step options for precise tuning:
- 0.25K, 1.25K, 2.5K, 5K, 6.25K
- 10K, 12.5K, 20K, 25K, 50K, 100K, 500K
- 1M, 5M
Access this setting via the 'Basic Settings' menu under 'Freq Step'.

5.3. AM/FM Reception
The HW-UV938 supports both AM and FM reception modes. To switch between them for receiving, navigate through the menu options. For SW/MW/LW/FM receiving, enter the FM Radio Menu and long press the '# v/m' key.

5.4. Scrambler Function
The radio includes 8 groups of scramblers for enhanced privacy. This feature can be enabled or disabled via the 'Channel Set' menu under 'Scrambler'.

5.5. Cross-Band Repeater
The cross-band repeater function allows the radio to relay signals between different frequency bands (U trans U, U trans V). This extends communication range and flexibility. Activate this feature through the 'Basic Settings' menu under 'UV Repeater'.

5.6. Programmable Side Keys ('Key Define')
The HW-UV938 features programmable side keys (Side-key 1, Side-key 2) and a Multi PTT function, allowing you to assign frequently used features for quick access. Customize these settings in the 'Key Define' menu.

5.7. DTMF Functionality
The radio supports DTMF (Dual-Tone Multi-Frequency) for various signaling purposes. Settings for DTMF mode, TX start/end, and other parameters can be found in the 'Analog Settings' menu.

5.8. 1750 Tone and Audio Gain
The 1750 Tone is available for repeater access. You can also adjust the MIC Gain and Speaker (SPK) Gain to optimize audio quality. These settings are typically found within the 'Analog Settings' menu.

5.9. FM Radio

6. User Tips
- SSB on 27MHz CB: The HW-UV938 supports CB/SSB/HF reception and transmission in the 18-32MHz range, which includes the 27MHz CB band. This implies SSB operation is possible within this range.
- Enabling SW/LW Range: To enable Shortwave (SW) and Longwave (LW) reception, navigate to the FM Radio Menu and then long press the '# v/m' key to select the desired band.
- GPS/APRS Functionality: The radio has optional GPS and APRS features. These can be found and configured under the 'Extend (Optional)' menu in the device settings.
- Pre-configured Frequencies: While the radio offers extensive frequency capabilities, it is recommended to verify and configure specific frequencies or channels as per your local regulations and operational needs.
7. Maintenance
- Cleaning: Use a soft, damp cloth to clean the radio's exterior. Do not use harsh chemicals or solvents.
- Battery Care: To prolong battery life, avoid overcharging or completely draining the battery. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when not in use.
- Antenna: Ensure the antenna is securely attached. Avoid bending or stressing the antenna, as this can damage the connector or affect performance.
- Storage: When storing the radio for extended periods, remove the battery and store it separately.
8. Troubleshooting
- No Power: Check if the battery is properly installed and charged. Ensure the ON/OFF volume knob is turned on.
- No Reception/Transmission: Verify the antenna is correctly attached. Check the selected frequency and mode. Ensure the battery has sufficient charge.
- Poor Audio Quality: Adjust the MIC Gain and SPK Gain settings in the 'Analog Settings' menu. Check for any obstructions to the microphone or speaker.
- Menu Navigation Issues: If the menu seems unresponsive, try restarting the radio.
- Frequency Range Not Changing: After selecting a new work range, the radio will restart. Ensure you allow it to complete the restart process.
