MATEKSYS M10Q-5883

MATEKSYS M10Q-5883 GNSS GPS Module User Manual

Model: M10Q-5883

1. Introduction

The MATEKSYS M10Q-5883 is a high-performance multi-constellation GNSS module integrated with a magnetic compass. It is powered by the u-blox SAM-M10Q-00B, offering exceptional sensitivity and fast acquisition times for all L1 GNSS signals. This module supports concurrent reception of four GNSS systems: GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, and BeiDou, ensuring maximum position availability even in challenging environments like deep urban canyons. The u-blox Super-S (Super-Signal) technology enhances RF sensitivity and improves dynamic position accuracy in non-line-of-sight scenarios.

The module features a high-gain 15x15 mm patch antenna, balancing performance with a compact size. Its omnidirectional antenna radiation pattern provides flexibility for device installation in various applications, particularly for RC helicopters and other remote-controlled vehicles.

5. Operating Instructions

  • Firmware Requirements: INAV 5.0.0, Betaflight 4.3.0, ArduPilot 4.3, or newer versions are required for proper operation.
  • GNSS PPS LED: The green PPS LED will be solid ON after powering on. It will start blinking at 1Hz once the GNSS module achieves a 3D fix.
  • UBX Protocol: The UBX protocol is bidirectional. Your flight controller firmware can configure settings on the GPS module via this protocol, eliminating the need for manual configuration in u-center software.
  • Default Configuration: The SAM-M10Q, with u-blox FW 5.1, is pre-configured for concurrent reception of GPS, Galileo, GLONASS, and BeiDou B1C, with QZSS and SBAS enabled.
  • Timepulse Alignment: With u-blox GNSS FW3.01 and newer, the timepulse is aligned with UTC time. This alignment becomes valid only after the leap second information is downloaded, which can take up to 12.5 minutes. Therefore, the PPS LED might not blink immediately after a 3D GPS fix is acquired.

6. Troubleshooting

  • Compass Alignment:

Tilting the magnetometer is strongly discouraged. Ensure flat mounting for optimal performance.

    • INAV/BetaFlight: If the compass arrow is forward, set CW 270° Flip when the flight controller arrow is facing forward.
    • INAV/BetaFlight: If the compass arrow is backward, set CW 90° Flip when the flight controller arrow is facing forward.
    • Ardupilot/Mission Planner: Use Rotation None.
  • Magnetic Interference: Ensure the compass/magnetometer is mounted at least 10cm away from power lines, ESCs, motors, or any iron-based materials to prevent interference.
  • GNSS Module Not Detected (Grey GPS Icon): If your flight controller cannot detect the GNSS module despite correct wiring and setup, try performing a cold start reset. Bridge the "RST" pad to Ground for at least 100 ms. This will delete all information and trigger a cold start. Use this as a recovery option only.
  • Settings Not Persistent: UBX NEO-M9N, MAX-M10S, and SAM-M10Q series modules do not have built-in dataflash. If the GNSS module is powered off and the supercapacitor runs out, settings will revert to default.
  • Ceramic Antenna Scratches: Minor scratches on the ceramic antenna are normal and are a result of the antenna tuning process.

7. Maintenance

The M10Q-5883 module is designed for durability and generally requires minimal maintenance. Keep the module clean and free from dust and moisture. Avoid physical impact or excessive vibration. Ensure all connections remain secure during operation.

8. User Tips

No specific user tips were available from reviews or Q&A for this product. However, general best practices for GNSS modules include:

  • Mount the module in a location with a clear sky view to maximize satellite reception.
  • Ensure the module is securely fastened to prevent movement during flight, which could affect compass accuracy.
  • Regularly check for firmware updates for your flight controller, as these often include improvements for GNSS and compass integration.

9. Warranty and Support
