1. Introduction
The Forubest Zigbee MmWave Radar Motion Sensor is an advanced device designed for smart home environments. It utilizes 10GHz millimeter wave radar technology to accurately detect human motion, offering a superior alternative to traditional PIR sensors by detecting motion rather than presence. This sensor comes in two main versions and configurations:
- Versions: Available for Tuya Zigbee Gateway (compatible with Tuya App or Smart Life App) and for Z2M (Zigbee2MQTT on Home Assistant). Note: The Z2M version is not compatible with ZHA.
- Configurations:
- 2 In 1: Human motion sensor with luminance detection.
- 3 In 1: Human motion sensor with luminance detection, temperature, and humidity detection.
2. Key Features
- Millimeter Wave Accurate Detection: Offers a 110°±10° detection angle and a detection distance of 0.5-10 meters, enabling real-time monitoring day or night. Includes Lux detection for brightness.
- Environmental Monitoring (3-in-1 version): Records and displays historical temperature and humidity data within the app.
- Motion Alarm Notifications: Receive instant in-app notifications when motion is detected in the monitored area.
- Intelligent Linkage: Seamlessly integrate with other smart devices to create automated scenes, such as activating lights or smart sirens upon motion detection.
- History Records: Access a comprehensive history of motion events, temperature, humidity, and luminance values within the application.
- Real-time Status Check: Monitor the sensor's status and receive real-time detection notifications anytime, anywhere.
- Family Sharing Function: Share access to the sensor's data with family members, allowing everyone to monitor the indoor environment.
3. Setup Guide
3.1 Package Contents
Before you begin, ensure all components are present:
- Forubest Zigbee MmWave Radar Motion Sensor
- User Manual (this document)
- (Batteries are NOT included)
3.2 Battery Installation
The sensor requires 2x LR03/AAA batteries. To install:
- Gently open the battery compartment cover on the back of the sensor.
- Insert two AAA batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
- Close the battery compartment cover securely.
3.3 Pairing with a Zigbee Gateway
This sensor requires a Zigbee gateway to function. The pairing process varies slightly depending on your chosen version:
- For Tuya Version:
- Ensure your Tuya Zigbee Gateway is powered on and connected to your network.
- Open the Tuya Smart or Smart Life app on your smartphone.
- Follow the app's instructions to add a new device. The sensor should enter pairing mode automatically when batteries are inserted or by pressing a reset button (if available, refer to specific product packaging for button location).
- Once detected, confirm pairing in the app.
- For Z2M Version (Zigbee2MQTT on Home Assistant):
- Ensure your Home Assistant instance with Zigbee2MQTT is running and your Zigbee coordinator is operational.
- In Zigbee2MQTT, enable pairing mode.
- Insert batteries into the sensor (or press the reset button) to put it into pairing mode.
- The sensor should be discovered and added to your Zigbee2MQTT network.
Important: The Z2M version is NOT compatible with ZHA (Zigbee Home Automation) integration in Home Assistant.
3.4 Sensor Placement
Optimal placement is crucial for accurate detection:
- Detection Angle: The sensor has a 110°±10° detection angle. Position it to cover the desired area.
- Detection Distance: The effective detection distance is 0.5 to 10 meters. Consider the size of the room and the required coverage.
- Low sensitivity sensing: 0.3-3m
- High sensitivity sensing: 0.5-10m
- Avoid Obstructions: Ensure a clear line of sight for the millimeter wave radar. Walls, large furniture, or metal objects can interfere with detection.
- Environmental Factors: For temperature and humidity readings (3-in-1 version), avoid placing the sensor in direct sunlight, near heat sources, or in areas with high airflow that could skew readings.
4. Operating Instructions
4.1 Monitoring Data
Once paired, you can monitor the sensor's data through your chosen smart home app (Tuya Smart/Smart Life or Home Assistant):
- Motion Detection: The app will display real-time motion status and provide notifications when motion is detected.
- Luminance: View the current illuminance value (in Lux) detected by the sensor.
- Temperature & Humidity (3-in-1 version): Access current temperature (°C) and humidity (%) readings, along with historical data curves.
4.2 Setting Up Intelligent Scenes/Automations
Leverage the sensor's capabilities to create smart automations:
- Open your smart home app (Tuya Smart/Smart Life or Home Assistant).
- Navigate to the 'Automation' or 'Scenes' section.
- Create a new automation. Use the motion sensor as a trigger (e.g., "When motion is detected").
- Define the action (e.g., "Turn on smart light," "Activate smart siren," "Adjust smart curtain switch").
- Save and enable the automation.
Note: Intelligent scenes are primarily triggered by motion detection. The sensor detects motion, not continuous presence.
4.3 Sharing Function
To share sensor data with family members:
- In your smart home app, go to the sensor's settings or device details.
- Look for a 'Share Device' or 'Family Management' option.
- Follow the prompts to invite family members to view and control the sensor.
5. Maintenance
5.1 Battery Replacement
The sensor has a standby time of approximately 8 months. When the battery level is low, you may receive a notification in your app. Replace the batteries as described in Section 3.2.
5.2 Cleaning
To maintain optimal performance, periodically clean the sensor's exterior. Use a soft, dry cloth to gently wipe away dust or debris. Avoid using liquid cleaners or abrasive materials.
6. Troubleshooting
- Sensor not detecting motion:
- Check battery level and replace if necessary.
- Ensure the sensor is placed within the optimal detection range (0.5-10m) and angle (110°±10°).
- Remove any obstructions that might block the millimeter wave radar.
- Verify the sensor is properly paired with your Zigbee gateway.
- Inaccurate temperature/humidity readings (3-in-1 version):
- Relocate the sensor away from direct sunlight, heating/cooling vents, or areas with significant temperature fluctuations.
- Ensure proper air circulation around the sensor.
- Sensor not appearing in Home Assistant (Z2M version):
- Confirm that Zigbee2MQTT is running correctly.
- Ensure the sensor is in pairing mode during discovery.
- Remember, the Z2M version is NOT compatible with ZHA. If you are using ZHA, you will need a Tuya-compatible version or a different sensor.
- Automations not triggering:
- Verify that the automation rules are correctly configured in your app.
- Ensure the sensor is detecting motion reliably.
- Confirm that the linked smart devices are online and responsive.

8. User Tips
- Motion vs. Presence: Remember that this is a 10G mmWave *motion* sensor, not a *presence* sensor or a traditional PIR sensor. It detects movement, but not necessarily if someone is stationary in the room.
- Automation Logic: When setting up intelligent scenes, base your automations on the detection of motion. For example, 'turn on lights when motion is detected' rather than 'keep lights on while someone is present'.
- Gateway Requirement: Always ensure you have a compatible Zigbee gateway for your chosen sensor version (Tuya or Z2M) as the sensor cannot operate independently.
- Battery Life: To maximize battery life, consider the frequency of motion in the area and adjust sensitivity settings if available in your smart home platform.
