DX-SMART Smart Indoor Positioning Solution User Manual

Models: CP28, CP32, LoRaWAN Gateway

1. Introduction

The DX-SMART Smart Indoor Positioning Solution provides a comprehensive system for real-time personnel and asset tracking within indoor environments. This solution integrates Bluetooth beacons (CP28 and CP32) with a LoRaWAN gateway, leveraging LoRaWAN spread spectrum technology for reliable, long-range communication and iBeacon fusion for precise indoor location. The system is designed for industrial durability, operating effectively in harsh environments from -40°C to +85°C, and is cloud-powered with TTN integration for geo-fencing and replay functionalities.

This manual provides essential information for setting up, operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting your DX-SMART Indoor Positioning Kit.

2. System Components

The DX-SMART Indoor Positioning Solution typically includes the following components:

  • LoRaWAN Gateway: The central hub that receives LoRaWAN transmissions from the CP32 Smart Badges and connects to the TTN Cloud Platform via network cable, 4G, or WiFi.
  • DX-CP32 Smart Badge (Chest Badge Type iBeacon): A portable beacon that scans BLE signals from CP28 beacons and transmits data via LoRaWAN. It features a Type-C rechargeable lithium battery.
  • DX-CP28 Positioning Beacon: A static beacon that transmits BLE signals, used for precise indoor positioning. It is powered by button cell batteries.

3. Setup and Installation

3.1. System Overview and Deployment

The system operates by deploying CP28 Positioning Beacons in strategic indoor locations. The CP32 Smart Badge, carried by personnel or attached to assets, scans the BLE transmissions from these CP28 beacons. The CP32 then performs LoRaWAN transmission to the LoRaWAN Gateway, which in turn sends data to the TTN Cloud Platform for monitoring and analysis.

3.2. Component Preparation

  1. LoRaWAN Gateway: Connect the LoRaWAN Gateway to power and ensure it has network connectivity (Ethernet, 4G, or WiFi) to access the TTN Cloud Platform.
  2. DX-CP28 Positioning Beacons: Ensure CP28 beacons have fresh CR2477 button cell batteries installed.
  3. DX-CP32 Smart Badges: Charge CP32 Smart Badges using a Type-C cable until fully charged.

3.3. Powering On/Off Beacons

For CP32 and similar beacons:

  • Power On: Press the KEY Button. The pilot lamp will blink once.
  • Shutdown: Press and hold the KEY Button for approximately 4 seconds until the pilot lamp is solid red for 2 seconds and then turns off.

3.4. DX-SMART APP Setup

  1. Download the APP:
    • Android: Search for "DX-SMART" on Google Play and download.
    • iOS: Search for "DX-SMART" on the Apple App Store and download.
  2. Connect and Configure Beacons:
    • Note the MAC code printed on the side of your CP32 or CP28 beacon.
    • Open the DX-SMART APP and select "Beacon Connection".
    • The app will display a list of nearby Bluetooth devices. Find the corresponding MAC code for your beacon. If there are many devices, use the "Scan Connection" function or "Edit Filter" to narrow down the list.
    • The initial password for connecting to a beacon is dx1234.
    • Upon successful connection, you can access the beacon's settings to modify its advertising parameters.
    • Configurable Frames: Device Info, iBeacon, UID, URL, TLM, and NoData. You can customize UUID, Major, Minor values, and other parameters as needed.
    • Important: Only one advertisement frame per type is supported (e.g., only one iBeacon frame). At least one data frame must be active; you cannot set all six advertisement frames to "No Data" simultaneously.
    • All changes must be saved by clicking the "SAVE" button to become effective. Any unsaved modifications will be discarded upon exiting the page.

4. Operation

4.1. Monitoring and Tracking

Once the system is set up and beacons are configured, the LoRaWAN Gateway will transmit data to the TTN Cloud Platform. You can monitor and track personnel or assets in real-time through the TTN Cloud interface on your PC or mobile device. The system accurately tracks motion paths and provides background software monitoring.

4.2. Application Scenarios

The DX-SMART Indoor Positioning Solution is versatile and can be applied in various scenarios:

Four images depicting application scenarios: Factory Inspection, Elderly Care Surveillance, Worksite Security, and Smart Warehouse & Logistics.
Figure 4.1: Typical Application Scenarios
  • Factory Inspection: Visualize real-time movement patterns of workers between equipment zones, optimizing workflow and safety compliance.
  • Elderly Care Surveillance: Receive instant notifications if seniors wander beyond designated safe areas, ensuring their safety at all times.
  • Worksite Security: Real-time monitoring of personnel location and movement, immediate push notification when personnel enter high-risk areas to prevent accidents.
  • Smart Warehouse & Logistics: Streamline warehouse operations with precise asset tracking and efficient stack rotation.

5. Maintenance and Safety

5.1. Battery Information

  • DX-CP28 Positioning Beacon: Uses two CR2477 button cell batteries (880mAh x 2) with an estimated life of 4 years. These batteries are typically non-rechargeable and should be replaced when depleted.
  • DX-CP32 Smart Badge: Features a 300 mAh Type-C rechargeable lithium battery. Recharge as needed using a standard Type-C cable.
  • LoRaWAN Gateway: Powered via DC 12V-1A or PoE (IEEE 802.3af).

5.2. Safety Instructions

To ensure safe operation and longevity of your devices, please observe the following:

  1. Disposal: When batteries are depleted or devices reach end-of-life, dispose of them properly in compliance with local environmental regulations. Do not discard in household waste or incinerate.
  2. Battery Handling: Keep batteries out of reach of children to prevent accidental ingestion.
  3. Prohibited Actions: Do not force discharge, recharge (non-rechargeable batteries), disassemble, heat above the manufacturer's specified temperature range, or incinerate any component. Failure to follow these instructions may result in venting, leakage, or explosion, causing chemical burns or other serious injuries.
  4. Accidental Exposure: In case of accidental exposure to battery contents or ingestion, immediately contact your local Poison Control Center or medical authority for treatment instructions.
  5. Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the devices. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.

6. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your DX-SMART Indoor Positioning Solution, consider the following:

  • Beacon Not Connecting to APP: Ensure Bluetooth is enabled on your mobile device. Verify the beacon is powered on. Check the MAC code on the beacon matches the one in the app. Try using the "Scan Connection" or "Edit Filter" functions in the DX-SMART APP.
  • Incompatibility Issues: Always use the official DX-SMART APP for connection and configuration. Using other applications may result in incompatibility or system crashes.
  • No Data on TTN Cloud: Verify the LoRaWAN Gateway is powered on and has a stable internet connection (Ethernet, 4G, or WiFi). Check the connection between the Gateway and the TTN Cloud Platform. Ensure CP32 badges are powered on and within range of both CP28 beacons and the LoRaWAN Gateway.
  • Beacon Not Transmitting: Ensure the beacon's battery is charged (CP32) or replaced (CP28). Check beacon configuration in the DX-SMART APP to ensure at least one data frame is active and parameters are saved.
