4. Setup
4.1 Battery Installation
The WINTACT infrared thermometer requires two 1.5V AAA batteries for operation.
- Locate the battery compartment on the handle of the device.
- Gently pull down the handle cover to open the battery compartment.
- Insert two 1.5V AAA batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
- Close the handle cover until it clicks securely into place.

5. Operating Instructions
5.1 Taking a Measurement
- Point the thermometer at the target object.
- Pull and hold the trigger. The laser pointer will activate (if enabled) to help aim. The 'SCAN' icon will appear on the display.
- The measured temperature will be displayed on the LCD screen.
- Release the trigger. The 'HOLD' icon will appear, and the last measured temperature will remain on the display for a few seconds before the device automatically powers off (if auto power off is enabled).

5.2 Unit Conversion (β/β)
Press the 'β/β' button located below the display to switch between Celsius and Fahrenheit temperature units.
5.3 Laser and Backlight Control
Use the dedicated buttons below the display to toggle the laser pointer and the display backlight on or off as needed for your measurement environment.
5.4 Distance to Spot Size (D:S)
The D:S ratio for this thermometer is 12:1. This means that at a distance of 12 inches from the target, the measurement spot diameter will be 1 inch. To ensure accurate readings, make sure the target area is larger than the spot size at your chosen measurement distance.
6. Maintenance
6.1 Cleaning
- Lens: The most critical part of the thermometer is the lens. Clean it with a soft, damp cloth or cotton swab. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Casing: Clean the device casing with a damp cloth and mild soap. Do not immerse the device in water.
6.2 Storage
- Store the thermometer in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
- Remove batteries if the device will not be used for an extended period to prevent leakage.
7. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Display shows "Hi" or "Lo" | Temperature is outside the measurement range. | Ensure the target temperature is within the specified range for your model (WT319A: -50β~400β; WT319B: -50β~550β). |
| Blank display | Low or dead batteries. | Replace with fresh 1.5V AAA batteries. |

9. User Tips
- For optimal accuracy, ensure the target object completely fills the measurement spot size.
- Regularly clean the infrared lens to prevent dust or debris from affecting readings.
- When measuring liquids, stir the liquid to ensure a uniform temperature for a more accurate reading.
- Be aware that shiny or polished metal surfaces may give lower readings due to their low emissivity. For such surfaces, you might apply a piece of masking tape or flat black paint to the surface and measure the temperature of the treated spot.
