4.3 DMX Signal Connections

The DMX Splitter features one DMX IN port, one DMX OUT port (direct pass-through), and eight independent DMX OUT ports (DMXOUT 1-8).

  1. DMX Input: Connect your DMX controller's output to the DMX IN port on the splitter using a 3-pin XLR cable.
  2. DMX Output (Direct): The DMX OUT port provides a direct pass-through of the input signal, useful for daisy-chaining to another splitter or device before splitting.
  3. Independent DMX Outputs: Connect your DMX-compatible lighting fixtures to the DMXOUT 1-8 ports using 3-pin XLR cables. Each of these outputs is electrically and optically isolated, preventing signal interference between connected devices.

5. Operating Instructions

  1. Power On: After making all necessary connections, switch the power button to the ON position. The "Power" LED indicator on the top panel will illuminate.
  2. Signal Indicators: The "Signal" LED indicators (one for each output) will light up when a DMX signal is detected on their respective output lines. This helps confirm signal flow.
  3. DMX Signal Amplification: The built-in high-speed chip effectively amplifies and isolates the DMX signal, preventing attenuation over long cable runs and reducing the risk of equipment loss due to back-flow current.
  4. Wireless DMX Functionality: If using the wireless DMX feature (as indicated by the model name), ensure your DMX controller and receiving fixtures are configured for wireless operation and paired according to their respective manuals. The DMX Splitter acts as an amplifier and distributor for the DMX512 signal, whether wired or wireless.

6. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Regularly wipe the exterior of the unit with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Environment: Operate the device within the specified working environment temperature of -20℃ to 40℃. Avoid exposure to extreme temperatures, humidity, or direct sunlight.
  • Ventilation: Ensure adequate ventilation around the unit to prevent overheating.
  • Cable Inspection: Periodically check DMX and power cables for any signs of wear or damage. Replace damaged cables immediately.
  • Storage: When not in use for extended periods, store the DMX Splitter in a cool, dry place, away from dust and moisture.

7. Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
No Power LED indicationPower adapter not connected or faulty; Power outlet not active; Power switch is OFF.Check power adapter connection; Verify power outlet functionality; Ensure power switch is ON.
No Signal LED indication on outputsNo DMX signal from controller; Faulty DMX IN cable; Incorrect DMX controller settings.Check DMX controller output; Replace DMX IN cable; Verify DMX controller settings.
Lights not responding on a specific outputFaulty DMX OUT cable; Issue with the lighting fixture; Incorrect DMX address on fixture.Test with a different DMX OUT cable; Check the lighting fixture's functionality; Verify DMX address settings on the fixture.
Intermittent signal or flickering lightsLoose DMX connections; Signal interference; Long cable runs without proper termination.Ensure all DMX cables are securely connected; Check for sources of electrical interference; Use DMX terminators on the last fixture in a chain if applicable.

8. User Tips

  • For optimal signal integrity, especially over long distances, always use high-quality DMX cables.
  • While the splitter provides isolation, proper DMX termination on the last fixture in each chain can further enhance signal stability.
  • Utilize the hook mounting feature for secure and organized installation, preventing accidental disconnections during events.
  • Regularly check the LED indicators for Power and Signal to quickly diagnose connection issues.
