User Manual

1. Introduction

The Voltronic Axpert VM III 5000W 48V 100A MPPT is a high-performance hybrid solar inverter designed for both isolated installations and self-consumption systems. This compact unit integrates a pure sine wave inverter, a 100A MPPT solar charge controller, and a battery charger (from grid or generator) into a single device.

It supports up to 5000W of photovoltaic power, with a wide solar input voltage range of 120V to 450VDC (maximum 500VDC). A key feature is its ability to operate with or without batteries, directly supplying consumption from solar production when available.

The inverter features a color LCD screen for easy configuration and monitoring. A built-in WiFi module allows real-time monitoring of the installation via a mobile application. Advanced electrical protections against overload, overheating, and reverse polarity are incorporated for enhanced safety and reliability.

This inverter is an ideal solution for rural homes, country houses, small businesses, or any isolated facility requiring reliable and efficient power management.

5. Setup

5.1 Installation Location

  • Mount the inverter vertically on a solid wall or structure.
  • Ensure adequate clearance around the inverter for proper airflow and heat dissipation (at least 20 cm on all sides).
  • Avoid direct sunlight, high temperatures, humidity, and dusty environments.
  • The installation surface must be able to support the weight of the inverter (approximately 10 kg).

5.2 Wiring Connections

All wiring must comply with local electrical codes and be performed by a qualified electrician. Refer to Figure 4.4 for AC connections and Figure 4.3 for general layout.

  1. Battery Connection: Connect the battery bank to the inverter's DC terminals. Ensure correct polarity (positive to positive, negative to negative). Use appropriately sized cables and fuses/breakers. The inverter requires a 48V battery system.
  2. PV Array Connection: Connect the solar panel array to the PV input terminals. Observe correct polarity and ensure the PV array's open circuit voltage and power are within the inverter's specifications (Max. PV Array Open Circuit Voltage: 500VDC, MPPT Range: 120-450VDC, Max. PV Array Power: 5000W).
  3. AC Input Connection (Grid/Generator): Connect the AC utility grid or generator output to the 'AC IN' terminals. Ensure the input voltage and frequency match the inverter's specifications (230VAC, 50/60Hz). An external breaker is recommended.
  4. AC Output Connection (Load): Connect your AC loads to the 'AC OUT' terminals. Ensure the total load does not exceed the inverter's rated output power (5000W).
  5. Grounding: Connect the inverter's ground terminal to a reliable earth ground.
  6. Communication Connections: Connect any necessary communication cables (e.g., USB, RS232) for external monitoring or control. The built-in WiFi module allows wireless monitoring.

WARNING: Incorrect wiring can cause severe damage to the inverter, batteries, and connected appliances, and poses a risk of electric shock or fire. Double-check all connections before powering on.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1 Powering On/Off

  1. Power On: First, switch on the battery breaker (if applicable), then the PV array breaker, and finally the AC input breaker (if connected to grid/generator). The inverter will perform a self-test and the LCD display will illuminate.
  2. Power Off: Reverse the power-on sequence. First, switch off the AC input breaker, then the PV array breaker, and finally the battery breaker.

6.2 LCD Display and Settings

The color LCD display provides real-time information such as input voltage (PV, AC), output voltage, battery status, load percentage, and operational mode. Use the navigation buttons (typically UP, DOWN, ENTER, ESC) to browse menus and adjust settings.

Key settings accessible via the LCD include:

  • Output Source Priority: Configure the order in which the inverter draws power (e.g., Solar first, Utility first, SBU - Solar-Battery-Utility).
  • Charger Source Priority: Set the preferred charging source for batteries (e.g., Solar only, Solar and Utility, Utility only).
  • Battery Type: Select the type of battery connected (e.g., AGM, Flooded, Lithium-ion) to ensure proper charging parameters.
  • AC Output Voltage/Frequency: Adjust if necessary (e.g., 230V, 50Hz/60Hz).

6.3 WiFi Monitoring

The built-in WiFi module allows remote monitoring of your inverter's performance and status via a dedicated mobile application. Follow the instructions provided with the inverter for connecting to your local WiFi network and setting up the mobile app.

6.4 Battery-Less Operation

The Axpert VM III can operate without batteries, directly supplying power to loads from the solar array. In this mode, if solar production is insufficient, the inverter can draw power from the AC input (grid/generator) to supplement or power the loads entirely. This feature is ideal for self-consumption systems where excess solar power can be used directly.

7. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and longevity of your inverter.

  • Cleaning: Periodically clean the inverter's exterior and ventilation openings to prevent dust buildup, which can hinder cooling. Use a soft, dry cloth. Do not use liquids or abrasive cleaners.
  • Connections Check: Annually inspect all electrical connections (PV, battery, AC input/output) for tightness and signs of corrosion. Tighten any loose connections.
  • Environmental Check: Ensure the installation environment remains within recommended temperature and humidity ranges.
  • Firmware Updates: Check the manufacturer's website for any available firmware updates to improve performance or add features.

WARNING: Always disconnect all power sources before performing any cleaning or inspection that requires touching internal components or wiring.
