5. Installation
Before beginning installation, ensure your door meets the compatibility requirements (door thickness 35-55mm, 5050 mortise type). The lock is compatible with both left and right opening doors.

5.1. Pre-installation Check
- Measure your door thickness to ensure it is between 35mm and 55mm.
- Verify that your existing mortise lock or door preparation matches the 5050 mortise (22*160) dimensions.
- Determine the opening direction of your door (left or right) as the lock is universally compatible.
5.2. General Installation Steps
Refer to the detailed installation guide included in your package for precise instructions and diagrams. The general steps involve:
- Remove your existing lock hardware.
- Install the 5050 mortise lock into the door edge.
- Mount the front panel, ensuring all cables are correctly routed.
- Connect the cables to the rear panel.
- Secure the rear panel to the door.
- Install the handles and test their operation.
- Insert the batteries and perform initial setup.
6. Initial Setup
6.1. Powering the Lock
The lock requires 4 AA batteries for operation. Open the battery compartment on the rear panel and insert the batteries, ensuring correct polarity. The lock will provide a low power reminder when batteries need replacement.

6.2. App Integration (Tuya Smart Life)
To utilize the smart features, download the Tuya Smart or Smart Life app from your mobile app store. Follow the in-app instructions to add your WAFU X8 lock. Ensure your Wi-Fi network is stable during the pairing process.
6.3. User Registration
As an administrator, you can register up to 100 fingerprints, 100 passwords, and 100 IC cards. Refer to the app or the included manual for specific steps on how to add new users and their respective unlocking credentials.
6.4. Phantom Password Setup
The phantom password feature allows you to enter random digits before or after your correct password to confuse onlookers, enhancing security. When setting up your password, the system will guide you on how to enable and use this feature.

6.5. Temporary Password Generation
Temporary passwords can be generated through the Tuya Smart Life app. This is useful for granting temporary access to guests or service providers without sharing your permanent credentials.

7. Operating Instructions
7.1. Unlocking Methods
- Fingerprint Unlock: Place your registered finger on the fingerprint reader on the outdoor handle. The lock will unlock with a single touch. The semiconductor fingerprint reader ensures quick and accurate recognition.
- Password Unlock: Enter your registered password on the keypad. Utilize the phantom password feature by entering random digits before or after your actual code for enhanced privacy.
- IC Card Unlock: Present your registered IC card to the card reading area on the front panel. The lock will verify the card and unlock.
- Mechanical Key Unlock: In case of emergency or power loss, use the provided mechanical keys to manually unlock the door. The keyhole is located discreetly on the outdoor handle.
- App Remote Unlock: When a visitor presses the doorbell, you will receive a notification on your Tuya Smart Life app. You can then view the visitor via the camera and remotely unlock the door.
- Temporary Password Unlock: Use temporary passwords generated via the app for time-limited access.

7.2. Doorbell and Camera Functionality
The integrated doorbell and HD cat-eye camera provide real-time monitoring and communication:
- When the doorbell button is pressed, the camera automatically captures a photo and sends it to your linked mobile app.
- The camera features a 120° ultra-wide monitoring range and an infrared sensor for clear visibility even in dark environments.

7.3. Passage Mode
Passage mode allows the door to remain unlocked for a specified period, enabling easy entry and exit without requiring credentials. This is convenient for areas with frequent foot traffic. To activate/deactivate passage mode, refer to your app settings or the lock's administrator menu.

7.4. Indoor Electronic Reversed Lock Button
The indoor electronic reversed lock button provides an additional layer of security. When activated, only administrators can unlock the door from the outside, preventing normal users from gaining entry even with their registered credentials. This feature is controlled from the inside handle.

8. Maintenance
8.1. Battery Replacement
When the lock's batteries are low, you will receive an audible alert when opening the lock. Replace all 4 AA batteries promptly to ensure continuous operation. Always use new, high-quality alkaline AA batteries.
8.2. Cleaning
- Wipe the lock's surface with a soft, dry cloth.
- For the fingerprint sensor and camera lens, use a soft, lint-free cloth, possibly slightly dampened with water, then dry thoroughly. Avoid harsh chemicals.
9. Troubleshooting
9.1. Lockout Due to Incorrect Attempts
If continuous incorrect attempts are made to unlock the door (e.g., wrong fingerprint or password), the system will lock out for 5 minutes as a security measure. During this time, the cat-eye camera will automatically snap photos and send them to your app.

9.2. Emergency Unlocking
If the lock's batteries are completely depleted, you can use the mechanical keys provided to manually unlock the door. Alternatively, you can supply emergency power via the Type-C port located on the outdoor handle using a power bank or compatible charger.
9.3. Connectivity Issues
If you experience issues with app connectivity or remote functions, ensure your home Wi-Fi network is active and stable. Check the lock's battery level and restart both the lock (if possible via app or by temporarily removing batteries) and your Wi-Fi router if problems persist.
10. User Tips
- Regular Battery Checks: Although the lock has a low power reminder, it's good practice to check battery levels periodically, especially before extended absences.
- Secure Key Storage: Always keep your mechanical keys in a safe, memorable location outside your home, such as with a trusted neighbor or in a secure lockbox, to ensure access during emergencies.
- Fingerprint Sensor Hygiene: For optimal fingerprint recognition, ensure your fingers are clean and dry when using the sensor, and periodically wipe the sensor surface.
- Wi-Fi Stability: A strong and stable Wi-Fi connection is crucial for reliable remote unlocking, real-time notifications, and camera functionality. Consider your router's placement relative to the door lock.
- Administrator Access: Limit the number of administrators on the lock and app to enhance security.
11. Warranty and Support
