Operating Instructions
Basic Numeric Input
The Kisnt KN17 functions as a standard 17-key numeric keypad. Simply press the desired number or symbol keys to input data into your active application.
Num Lock Function
The 'Num Lock' key toggles the numeric keypad's primary function. When Num Lock is active, the keys will input numbers. When inactive, some keys may function as navigation keys (Home, End, PgUp, PgDn, Insert, Delete) as indicated by secondary legends on the keycaps.
Backlight Control
The KN17 features a white monochrome backlight. The 'Enter' key often has a secondary function to control backlight effects. Pressing 'Fn' (Function) key in combination with 'Enter' or other designated keys may cycle through different backlight modes or adjust brightness. Refer to the keycap legends for specific backlight controls. Note that the lights are not visible through the keycaps themselves, but illuminate around them.
Hot-Swapping Switches
The KN17 supports hot-swappable switches, allowing you to change mechanical switches without soldering. This feature is compatible with most 3-pin and 5-pin MX style mechanical switches.
- Removing a Switch: Use a switch puller tool (not included unless specified) to gently grip the top and bottom clips of the switch. Pull straight up to remove the switch from the PCB.
- Installing a Switch: Align the pins of the new switch with the holes on the PCB. Ensure the switch is oriented correctly. Gently push the switch down until it clicks into place. Do not force it; if resistance is met, check pin alignment.

Maintenance
Cleaning the Keycaps
The PBT dye-sublimation keycaps are durable. To clean them, gently remove the keycaps using a keycap puller. Wash them with mild soap and water, then rinse thoroughly and allow them to air dry completely before reattaching. For light cleaning, use a soft, damp cloth.
Cleaning the Numpad Body
Use a soft, lint-free cloth, slightly dampened with water or a mild cleaning solution, to wipe down the body of the numpad. Avoid getting moisture into the switch sockets or USB port.
Cable Care
Handle the detachable USB Type-C cable with care. Avoid sharp bends or excessive pulling to prevent damage to the cable or connectors.
Troubleshooting
- Numpad Not Recognized:
- Ensure the USB cable is securely connected to both the numpad and your computer.
- Try connecting the numpad to a different USB port on your computer.
- Test the numpad on another computer to rule out a computer-specific issue.
- Keys Not Responding:
- Check for any debris or foreign objects under the keycaps that might be obstructing the switches.
- If you have hot-swapped switches, ensure they are fully and correctly seated in their sockets.
- If a specific switch is faulty, replace it with a new one.
- Backlight Not Working:
- Verify the numpad is properly connected and receiving power.
- Try cycling through backlight modes or adjusting brightness using the designated key combinations (e.g., Fn + Enter).
- Compatibility Issues:
- Remember that the numpad is not fully compatible with Mac OS for all function keys and is not compatible with ChromeBook.
User Tips
- The pre-installed Outemu Red switches are known for their quiet and smooth operation, making them suitable for various typing tasks.
- The multi-layer silencing structure (Poron bottom layer, sandwich foam, IXPE switch pad) contributes to a consistent key feel and a more pleasant typing sound.
- Due to its compact size, the KN17 can be conveniently placed on the left side of your main keyboard for left-handed users or specific workflows, and easily stored away when not needed.
- Experiment with different 3-pin or 5-pin MX style mechanical switches to customize your typing experience, thanks to the hot-swappable design.
