7. Care and Maintenance

  • Clean the Probe: Always clean the metal probe thoroughly with a soft, dry cloth after each use to prevent corrosion and ensure accurate future readings.
  • Avoid Liquids: Do not measure water or any other liquids directly with the device. It is designed for soil testing only.
  • Gentle Insertion: Do not force the probe into hard or rocky soil, as this can damage the probe. If the soil is too hard, pre-moisten it or loosen it gently before insertion.
  • Storage: Do not leave the device inserted in soil for prolonged periods. Store it in a clean, dry place when not in use.
  • Battery Replacement: Replace batteries when the display becomes dim or readings become inconsistent. Remove batteries if the device will not be used for an extended period to prevent leakage.
Image showing three important precautions: Do not measure water or any liquid, do not force to insert into the soil, and do not stick in the soil for long periods of time.

8. Troubleshooting

  • No Display/Dim Display:
    • Check if batteries are installed correctly.
    • Replace with new LR44 batteries.
  • Inaccurate Readings:
    • Ensure the probe is clean and free of residue.
    • Make sure the probe is inserted 8-12 cm deep into the soil.
    • Ensure the soil is not too dry or too hard; moisten or loosen if necessary.
    • Avoid testing in areas with large rocks or metal objects.
  • Values Not Changing:
    • Remember that values lock after 5 seconds. Press the ON/OFF button to release the lock before taking a new measurement.

9. User Tips

  • For best results, take multiple readings in different spots within the same area and average them.
  • Always ensure the soil is adequately moist before testing for moisture, pH, and fertility, as very dry soil can lead to inaccurate readings for all parameters.
  • Keep a log of your readings over time to track changes in your soil and adjust your plant care routine accordingly.
  • When testing potted plants, ensure the probe is inserted away from the pot's edge and any large roots.
