2.3. Battery Installation and Charging
The SQ-8500 comes with a 5800mAh Li-ion battery. Ensure it is fully charged before first use.
- Installation: Align the battery with the back of the radio unit and slide it into place until it clicks securely.
- Charging: You can charge the battery using either the provided base charger or a Type-C cable directly into the Type-C Charging Port (19). The Battery Charging Indicator (17) will show red when charging and green when fully charged.
Power Bank Function: The multifunctional battery can be used to temporarily charge low-power devices like mobile phones. Connect your device to the USB Port (18) and press the Output Charging Button (15) to activate the power bank function.
2.4. Antenna Installation
Screw the High Gain Tactical Antenna (1) clockwise onto the antenna connector at the top of the radio until it is finger-tight. Do not overtighten.
3. Operating Instructions
3.1. Power On/Off and Volume Adjustment
- Power On: Rotate the On/Off / Volume Knob (8) clockwise until you hear a click. The screen (10) will light up.
- Power Off: Rotate the On/Off / Volume Knob (8) counter-clockwise until you hear a click.
- Volume Adjustment: Rotate the On/Off / Volume Knob (8) to adjust the listening volume.
3.2. Channel Selection
Rotate the Channel Selector Knob (7) to cycle through the available 199 memory channels. The selected channel will be displayed on the screen (10).
3.3. Basic Communication (PTT)
The SQ-8500 features Dual PTT keys (3 and 4) for enhanced communication flexibility.
- To transmit, press and hold either PTT 1 (3) or PTT 2 (4). Speak clearly into the Microphone (12).
- Release the PTT button to receive.
- The Dual PTT keys allow independent control of calls on two different channels or groups, improving multitasking capabilities.
3.4. AI Noise Reduction
The AI Noise Reduction feature effectively reduces background noise during calls, improving voice clarity. To activate or deactivate this feature, press the AI Noise Reduction / Radio Button (5).
3.5. Flashlight and Strobe Lights
The SQ-8500 is equipped with a powerful flashlight (20) and eye-catching red/blue strobe lights for emergency signaling.
- Press the Torch / Flashlight Button (6) to cycle through different lighting modes: Bright Light Mode, SOS Mode (flashing white light), and Red/Blue Strobe Lights.
3.6. Tri-Power (H/M/L)
The walkie talkie supports three power levels (High, Medium, Low) which can be adjusted according to your communication needs to optimize range and battery life. Refer to the on-screen menu for power level selection.
3.7. FM Radio Function
To use the built-in FM radio, press the AI Noise Reduction / Radio Button (5) to switch to FM mode. Use the navigation buttons to tune to your desired frequency.
3.8. Other Functions
- Alarm Function: Press the Alarm Button (2) to activate an emergency alarm.
- VOX: Voice Operated Exchange allows hands-free transmission. This function can be enabled via programming software.

- TOT (Time Out Timer): Limits the duration of a single transmission to prevent accidental long transmissions. This function can be enabled via programming software.

- CTCSS and DCS Codes: Used for filtering out unwanted conversations on the same frequency. The radio supports searching for these codes.

4.1. Cleaning
