16-Pin CANBUS Decoder Harness for Ford Vehicles

Models: FORD-RZ-10, RZ-FD10, RZ-FD60

1. Introduction

This manual provides detailed instructions for the installation and operation of the 16-pin CANBUS Decoder Harness, designed to integrate aftermarket Android radio systems with various Ford vehicles. The CANBUS decoder ensures proper communication between your new head unit and the vehicle's existing electronic systems, enabling features such as steering wheel controls, door status, and reverse gear signals.

2. Product Overview

The product consists of a main 16-pin wiring harness and a CANBUS decoder box. The harness provides power, speaker connections, and various auxiliary inputs/outputs, while the CANBUS decoder translates vehicle data for your Android radio.

3. Compatibility

This CANBUS decoder harness is compatible with the following Ford vehicle models and years when installing an Android radio with Sync functionality:

  • Ford Focus (2011-2019)
  • Ford Fiesta
  • Ford Edge
  • Ford Explore

Please verify your vehicle's specific model and year against the CANBUS decoder label (Figure 4) to ensure full compatibility.

4. Package Contents

Depending on your selected option, your package may include:

  • 16-Pin Main Wiring Harness
  • CANBUS Decoder Box (e.g., RZ-FD60, RZ-FD10, RZ-10)
  • RCA Cable Assembly (for AUX IN L/R, AUX OUT L/R, Video Out, Camera In)
  • USB Extension Cable (if applicable)
  • Antenna Adapter (if applicable)

5. Setup and Installation

Warning: Professional installation is highly recommended. Disconnect the vehicle's battery before beginning any electrical work to prevent short circuits or damage to the vehicle's electrical system.

  1. Prepare the Vehicle: Ensure the vehicle is turned off and the negative terminal of the battery is disconnected. Carefully remove the factory radio/head unit from your Ford vehicle. Refer to your vehicle's service manual for specific removal instructions.
  2. Connect the Main Harness: Connect the 16-pin main wiring harness to the corresponding connector on your new Android radio.
  3. Integrate the CANBUS Decoder: Locate the dedicated connector on the main harness for the CANBUS decoder box. Plug the CANBUS decoder (e.g., RZ-FD60) into this connector. Ensure it is securely seated.

  5. Connect Auxiliary Cables:
    • RCA Cables: Connect the RCA cables (AUX IN, AUX OUT, Video Out) to the corresponding ports on your Android radio and any external devices (e.g., amplifiers, headrest monitors).
    • Camera Input: If installing a reverse camera, connect its video output to the 'CAMERA' RCA input on the harness.
    • USB: Connect any USB extension cables to the radio's USB ports for external storage or device charging.
  6. Secure Connections: Ensure all connections are firm and properly insulated. Avoid loose wires that could cause short circuits or interference.
  7. Test Functionality: Reconnect the vehicle's battery. Turn on the ignition and test the Android radio. Verify power, sound, steering wheel controls, reverse camera (if installed), and any other integrated features.
  8. Reassemble: Once all functions are confirmed, carefully reassemble the dashboard components.

6. Operating Instructions

Once installed, the CANBUS decoder operates automatically to facilitate communication between your Android radio and the vehicle. There are typically no specific operating steps required for the decoder itself. All functions, such as steering wheel controls, will be managed through your Android radio's interface and settings.

  • Steering Wheel Controls: After installation, access your Android radio's settings to configure and map the steering wheel control buttons.
  • Vehicle Information Display: Some Android radios, when paired with a CANBUS decoder, can display vehicle information (e.g., door status, climate control) on the screen. Refer to your Android radio's manual for these features.

7. Maintenance

The CANBUS decoder harness is designed for long-term, maintenance-free operation. To ensure continued performance:

  • Keep all connections secure and free from moisture or excessive vibration.
  • Avoid exposing the CANBUS decoder box to extreme temperatures or direct physical impact.

8. Troubleshooting

Problem Possible Cause Solution
No power to Android radio. Loose power connection, blown fuse, incorrect wiring. Check all power connections. Verify vehicle fuses. Ensure battery is reconnected.
No sound from speakers. Loose speaker connections, incorrect speaker wiring, radio settings. Check speaker wire connections. Verify radio's audio output settings.
Steering wheel controls not working. CANBUS decoder not properly connected, incorrect radio settings, incompatible radio. Ensure CANBUS decoder is fully plugged in. Access your Android radio's settings to configure steering wheel controls. Some radios require specific CANBUS settings.
Reverse camera not displaying. Camera not powered, video cable loose, radio not detecting reverse signal. Check camera power and video connections. Verify the radio's reverse trigger wire is connected (if applicable) and camera input is selected.

10. User Tips

  • Double-Check Connections: Before reassembling your dashboard, always perform a thorough check of all connections. A loose connection is a common cause of issues.
  • Radio Settings: Many Android radios require specific CANBUS settings to be configured in their system menus. If steering wheel controls or other vehicle features aren't working, check your radio's settings for a 'CANBUS' or 'Factory Settings' option.
  • Firmware Updates: Ensure your Android radio's firmware is up to date, as this can sometimes resolve compatibility issues with CANBUS decoders.
