5.1. Wiring Diagram Overview

iFlight Borg Mini F7 Flight Controller Comprehensive Wiring Diagram
Figure 2: Comprehensive Wiring Diagram for iFlight Borg Mini F7 Flight Controller. This diagram illustrates connections for various components including Digital VTX (DJI O3, Vista, Caddx Walksnail), Analog VTX, Receiver (ELRS, TBS Crossfire, FrSky), GPS, 4-in-1 ESC, Camera, Buzzer, and LED strip.

5.2. Detailed Wiring Instructions

  • Digital Transmitters (DJI Protocol - UART1):
    • Connect GND, 5V, TX1, RX1 pads on the FC to your Air Unit (DJI O3, Vista, Caddx Walksnail).
    • Important: For DJI O3 Air Unit, connect the yellow wire (RX) to the TX1 pad on the FC, and the white wire (TX) to the RX1 pad on the FC.
    • Important: For Vista/Caddx Walksnail, connect the yellow wire (RX) to the TX1 pad on the FC, and the white wire (TX) to the RX1 pad on the FC.
  • Analog VTX (UART1):
    • Connect GND, 5V, TX1, RX1, and Video pads on the FC to your Analog VTX.
    • Important: Connect the yellow wire (RX) to the TX1 pad on the FC, and the white wire (TX) to the RX1 pad on the FC.
  • Receiver (UART2):
    • Connect GND, 5V, TX2, RX2 pads on the FC to your Receiver (ELRS, TBS Crossfire, FrSky).
    • Important: Connect the yellow wire (RX) to the TX2 pad on the FC, and the white wire (TX) to the RX2 pad on the FC.
  • GPS Module (UART3, UART4, or UART5):
    • Connect GND, 5V, and the appropriate TX/RX pads (TX3/4/5, RX3/4/5) on the FC to your GPS module.
    • Important: Connect the yellow wire (RX) from the GPS to the TX3/4/5 pad on the FC, and the white wire (TX) from the GPS to the RX3/4/5 pad on the FC.
    • UART3, UART4, and UART5 can be used for GPS or other sensors requiring a serial port.
  • 4-in-1 ESC:
    • Connect the 4-in-1 ESC to the FC using the provided FPC cable or direct soldering for GND, BAT, M1-M4 (Motor outputs), Current, and Telemetry.
    • Warning: Ensure positive and negative poles are connected correctly. Reverse polarity will damage the flight controller.
    • Current Sensor: If your ESC does not have a current output, connect the current wire to the dedicated current pad on the flight controller.
    • ESC Telemetry (UART6): Connect the ESC telemetry wire to the UART6 RX pad on the flight controller.
  • Camera:
    • Connect GND, 5V, and Video pads on the FC to your FPV Camera.
  • Buzzer:
    • Connect the positive (BZ+) and negative (BZ-) terminals of your buzzer to the corresponding pads on the FC.
  • LED Strip:
    • Connect GND, 5V, and LED pads on the FC to your LED strip.
  • USB-C Port: The USB-C port is located on the side of the flight controller for connecting to a PC for configuration.

5.3. Firmware Target

For firmware flashing and configuration, use the following targets:

  • Betaflight Firmware Target: IFLIGHT_BLITZ_F722
  • INAV Firmware Target: IFLIGHT_BLITZ_F722

6. Operating Instructions

After completing the physical wiring, connect your flight controller to a computer using a USB-C cable and open your preferred configurator software (e.g., Betaflight Configurator or INAV Configurator).

6.1. Initial Configuration

  1. Connect the flight controller to your computer.
  2. Launch Betaflight/INAV Configurator.
  3. Select the correct COM port and click 'Connect'.
  4. Navigate through the tabs to configure your receiver, motors, OSD, and other peripherals according to your setup.
  5. Perform sensor calibration (accelerometer, gyroscope, barometer).
  6. Save and reboot the flight controller after making changes.

6.2. VTX ON/OFF Mode Command (Betaflight CLI)

To enable VTX ON/OFF functionality via a switch on your remote control, enter the following commands in the Betaflight CLI (Command Line Interface):

resource PINIO 1 C0
set pinio_config = 1,1,1,1
set pinio_box = 40,41,255,255
set box_user_1_name = VTX_ON_OFF
aux 0 40 8 900 2100 0 0
save

After entering these commands, you can assign a switch on your radio to the 'VTX_ON_OFF' auxiliary channel in the Modes tab of Betaflight Configurator.

7. Troubleshooting

  • No Power: Double-check all power connections, especially the main battery input. Ensure correct polarity.
  • No Connection to PC: Try a different USB-C cable. Ensure the correct drivers are installed for your flight controller. Try a different USB port on your computer.
  • Motors Not Spinning: Verify ESC connections and calibration. Check motor direction in the configurator. Ensure your radio is properly bound and configured.
  • Unstable Flight: Re-check all wiring for loose connections. Perform sensor calibration again. Review PID settings in the configurator.
  • OSD Not Displaying: Check camera and VTX connections. Ensure OSD is enabled and configured correctly in the configurator.

8. User Tips

  • Always perform a dry run (without propellers) after any configuration changes to ensure motors spin correctly and in the right direction.
  • Keep your firmware updated to the latest stable version for optimal performance and bug fixes.
  • Use thread-locker on mounting screws to prevent them from vibrating loose during flight.
  • Consider using a smoke stopper during initial power-up to prevent damage in case of a short circuit.
