5. Setup Instructions
5.1 Battery Installation
- Locate the battery compartment on the back of the meter.
- Open the battery cover.
- Insert four (4) LR03 AAA AM-4 1.5V alkaline batteries, ensuring correct polarity.
- Close the battery cover securely.
5.2 Probe Connection
- Identify the correct interface for each probe (PH, DO, EC/TDS/SALT/TEMP). The interfaces are color-coded (e.g., blue for pH, red for EC/TDS/SALT, black for DO).
- Align the probe connector with its corresponding interface on the meter.
- Gently push and rotate the connector inward until it is securely fastened.
- Ensure all probes are connected firmly to prevent inaccurate readings.
5.3 Initial Calibration
Before first use, or after extended storage, it is crucial to calibrate the probes for accurate measurements. Refer to the operating instructions for detailed calibration procedures for each parameter (pH, DO, EC/TDS/SALT).
6. Operating Instructions
6.1 Power On/Off
- Press the ON/OFF button to turn the meter on or off.
6.2 Mode Selection and Measurement
The meter allows selection of different measurement parameters and units:

- EC/TDS/SALT Selection: Short press the EC/TDS/SALT button to cycle through Electrical Conductivity (uS), Total Dissolved Solids (ppm), and Salinity (ppm) measurements.
- Dissolved Oxygen (DO) Unit Selection: Short press the DO mg/L / % button to switch between DO in mg/L (ppm) and DO in percentage (%).
- Temperature Unit Selection: Short press the Temp / CAL button to switch the temperature display between Celsius (°C) and Fahrenheit (°F).
- pH Measurement: Press the PH button to enter pH measurement mode.
To take a measurement, immerse the appropriate probe(s) into the sample solution. Wait for the reading on the large screen display to stabilize before recording the value.
6.3 Calibration
Regular calibration ensures the accuracy of your measurements. Use the provided calibration solutions for each parameter.
- pH Calibration: Typically involves using pH 4.00, pH 7.00, and pH 10.01 buffer solutions. Follow the on-screen prompts after pressing the Temp / CAL button in pH mode.
- DO Calibration: Use the Zero Oxygen Solution and Dissolved Oxygen Electrolyte Solution. Refer to the specific instructions for DO probe preparation and calibration.
- EC/TDS/SALT Calibration: Use the 12.88, 111.8, and 1413 calibration solutions. Follow the on-screen prompts after pressing the Temp / CAL button in EC/TDS/SALT mode.
7. Maintenance
7.1 Probe Care
- Cleaning: Always rinse probes with distilled or deionized water after each use to prevent contamination and residue buildup.
- Storage: Store pH probes in a KCL storage solution or the provided probe cap with a small amount of solution to keep the electrode hydrated. Store DO probes with their electrolyte solution and cap. Ensure all probe caps are securely in place when not in use.
- Handling: Handle probes gently to avoid damage to the sensitive sensing elements.
7.2 Meter Care
- Cleaning: Wipe the meter body with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Storage: Store the meter in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. If storing for an extended period, remove the batteries to prevent leakage.
- Battery Replacement: Replace batteries promptly when the low power indicator appears on the display to ensure continuous accurate operation.
8. Troubleshooting
- Inaccurate or Unstable Readings:
- Ensure probes are clean and free from residue.
- Perform a full calibration for the affected parameter.
- Check for proper probe connection to the meter.
- Verify that the sample temperature is within the meter's operating range.
- No Display or Meter Not Turning On:
- Check if batteries are correctly installed and have sufficient charge. Replace batteries if necessary.
- Ensure the ON/OFF button is pressed firmly.
- Probe Not Responding:
- Check for visible damage to the probe.
- Ensure the probe is properly connected.
- Recalibrate the probe. If issues persist, the probe may need replacement.
9. User Tips
- Wine Quality Monitoring: For bottled wine, it is recommended that the dissolved oxygen level be lower than 0.6 mg/L for red wine and 1.25 mg/L for white wine to prevent spoilage.
- Drinking Water Quality: Good water quality is essential for health. An optimum EC range for drinking water is around 1055 uS/cm. The YK-100 can help monitor EC levels within the range of 0.0-1999 uS/cm or 2.0-200.0 ms/cm.
- Regular Calibration: Calibrate your meter regularly, especially before critical measurements or if you suspect readings are drifting, to maintain accuracy.
