5.1. Automatic Recognition (Smart Mode)
Upon powering on, the multimeter automatically enters smart mode, identifying and measuring AC/DC voltage, resistance, and continuity without manual range selection. This is ideal for quick and general checks.
5.2. AC/DC Voltage Measurement
Connect the test probes to the circuit points where you want to measure voltage. The multimeter will automatically detect AC or DC voltage and display the reading. For ZL16A/ZL16B, the smart mode measures 1V-1000V DC and 1V-750V AC. Manual mode allows for 0V-1000V DC and 0V-750V AC.

Figure 6: Measuring AC/DC voltage on a circuit breaker.
5.3. AC/DC Current Measurement (ZL16A/ZL16B only)
For ZL16A/ZL16B models, connect the multimeter in series with the circuit to measure current. The range is 1mA-200mA for both AC and DC current. Ensure the circuit is de-energized before connecting the multimeter in series.

Figure 7: Measuring AC/DC current in a circuit.
5.4. Resistance Measurement
In smart mode, the multimeter automatically identifies and measures resistance. Connect the probes across the component to measure its resistance. For ZL15A/ZL15B, the range is 0-40MΩ; for ZL16A/ZL16B, it's 0-60MΩ.

Figure 8: Measuring resistance on a circuit board.
5.5. Continuity Measurement
The multimeter will beep if there is continuity (low resistance) between the two points being tested. This is useful for checking wires and connections.
5.6. Capacitance Measurement (ZL16A/ZL16B only)
For ZL16A/ZL16B models, connect the probes across the capacitor to measure its capacitance. The range is 0-60mF (0-60000uF). Ensure capacitors are discharged before testing.

Figure 9: Measuring capacitance of a component.
5.7. Frequency/Duty Cycle Measurement (ZL16A/ZL16B only)
For ZL16A/ZL16B models, the multimeter can measure frequency and duty cycle in the range of 0-10MHz. Connect the probes to the signal source.
5.8. Diode Test
Select the diode test mode using the SEL button. Connect the probes across a diode to check its forward voltage drop. The multimeter can also light up small light bulbs during this test.

Figure 10: Testing a diode and lighting an LED.
5.9. NCV (Non-Contact Voltage) Test
Switch to NCV mode. Hold the multimeter near a live AC voltage source without direct contact. The indicator lamp will flash red and the device will beep, with the display showing 'HI' for high sensitivity or 'Lo' for low sensitivity. This function helps detect live wires and circuit breakpoints.

Figure 11: Performing a Non-Contact Voltage (NCV) test.
5.10. LIVE (Live Line Detection)
In LIVE mode, insert the probe into a socket or touch a wire. If the indicator light is red and the display shows 'H' with a fast beep, it indicates a live wire (Firewire). If the display shows 'LIVE' without a beep, it indicates a neutral line (Zero Line).
5.11. Phase Sequence (ZL15A/ZL15B/ZL16A/ZL16B)
This function helps determine the phase sequence in three-phase systems. Refer to the on-screen indicators for results.
5.12. Industrial Temperature Measurement (ZL16A/ZL16B only)
For ZL16A/ZL16B models, the multimeter can measure industrial temperatures from -50°C to 1100°C using a compatible thermocouple (not always included, check package). Ambient temperature can also be measured from 0-60°C.
6. Maintenance
- Cleaning: Wipe the multimeter with a dry, soft cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Storage: Store the device in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
- Probe Care: Regularly inspect test probes for any damage to the insulation or tips. Replace damaged probes immediately.
- Battery Replacement/Charging: For battery-powered models (ZL15A/ZL16A), replace batteries when the low battery indicator appears. For rechargeable models (ZL15B/ZL16B), recharge the battery when low.
- Probe Tip: The pen tip is replaceable. If it wears out or breaks, unscrew it and install a new one.
7. Troubleshooting
- No Display/Power: Check battery installation (ZL15A/ZL16A) or ensure the device is charged (ZL15B/ZL16B). Press the power button firmly.
- Inaccurate Readings: Ensure probes are making good contact. Check for damaged probes. Verify the correct measurement mode is selected if not using smart mode.
- No Continuity Beep: Ensure the circuit is de-energized. Check for breaks in the circuit or high resistance.
- NCV Not Detecting: Ensure the NCV function is active. The sensitivity might need adjustment (H/L button).
- Display is Dim: The backlight may be off or the battery is low. Activate backlight or charge/replace batteries.
