The Protmex Neptune PTH-28 series is a portable, multifunctional environmental monitor designed to provide real-time data on critical air quality parameters. 2. Safety Information

  • Do not expose the device to extreme temperatures or direct sunlight for prolonged periods.
  • Keep the device away from water and moisture, unless specifically designed for water resistance (PTH-28B).
  • Do not attempt to open or repair the device yourself. Refer to qualified service personnel.
  • Ensure proper ventilation when using the device in enclosed spaces, especially during activities that produce CO or CO2.
  • The device is a monitoring tool and should not replace professional safety equipment or practices.

3. Getting Started

3.1 Package Contents

Verify that all items are present in your package:

  • 1 x Neptune PTH-28 Multifunctional Detector (PTH-28A or PTH-28B model)
  • 1 x Type-C Charging Cable

  • 1 x Storage Bag (for PTH-28B)

3.2 Device Overview

Familiarize yourself with the main components of your PTH-28 device:

  • Touch Screen: 1.8-inch LCD display for data visualization and interaction.
  • Power Button: Used to turn the device on/off.
  • Settings Button: Access device settings and menus.
  • USB-C Charging Port: For connecting the Type-C charging cable.
  • Flashlight: Integrated light source for illumination.
  • Flashlight Switch: Button to activate the flashlight.

3.3 Charging the Device

The PTH-28 series is equipped with a 2100mAh Lithium-ion battery. Before first use, fully charge the device.

  1. Connect the provided Type-C charging cable to the USB-C charging port on the device.
  2. Connect the other end of the cable to a 5V 1A USB power adapter (not included).
  3. The device display will indicate charging status. A full charge can provide up to 72 hours (PTH-28A) or 96 hours (PTH-28B) of standby duration.

3.4 Power On/Off

  • To Power On: Press and hold the Power Button for a few seconds until the screen illuminates.
  • To Power Off: Press and hold the Power Button for a few seconds. A power-off prompt may appear on the screen; confirm to shut down.

4. Operation

4.1 Display Interface

The 1.8-inch LCD touchscreen provides a clear and intuitive display of all monitored parameters. You can navigate through different screens or settings by swiping or tapping the screen.

The main screen typically shows real-time readings for CO, CO2, temperature, humidity, and UV index. Visual indicators and alarms will alert you to potential hazards.

4.2 Monitoring Functions

  • Carbon Monoxide (CO) Monitoring: The device continuously monitors CO concentration.

  • Carbon Dioxide (CO2) Monitoring: The device monitors CO2 concentration, crucial for indoor air quality and confined spaces.

  • UV Radiation Monitoring: Measures the Ultraviolet Index (UVI) to help you assess sun exposure risks.

  • Temperature & Humidity: Provides accurate readings for ambient temperature and relative humidity, along with a 'perceived temperature' or 'heat index' for comfort assessment.

4.3 Alarm System

The device features an audible buzzer alarm and visual indicators to alert you to unsafe gas levels. Alarm thresholds are pre-set based on safety guidelines:

  • Carbon Monoxide Alarm Values:
    • Safety: 0-49 ppm
    • Warn: 50-99 ppm
    • Danger: 100 ppm and above
  • Carbon Dioxide Alarm Values:
    • Safety: 400-1000 ppm
    • Warn: 1001-2000 ppm
    • Danger: 2000 ppm and above

When an alarm is triggered, take immediate action to ensure safety, such as evacuating the area or increasing ventilation.

4.4 Flashlight Function

The integrated flashlight provides convenient illumination in dark environments.

  1. Locate the Flashlight Switch on the device (refer to Figure 1).
  2. Press the Flashlight Switch to turn the flashlight on or off.

The flashlight emits a soft light with a color temperature between 2900-3100K and a brightness of 130-140 lumens.

4.5 Bluetooth APP Connection (PTH-28B Only)

The PTH-28B model supports Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity with the PROTMEX APP for enhanced functionality.

  1. Download the PROTMEX APP from your smartphone's app store.
  2. Ensure Bluetooth is enabled on your smartphone and the PTH-28B device.
  3. Open the APP and follow the on-screen instructions to pair with your PTH-28B device.

The APP allows for real-time data visualization with trend line charts, customizable device controls, historical records with detailed event logs, and exportable Excel spreadsheets for advanced data analysis. You can also adjust sampling intervals (5/15/30/60min) to optimize performance or battery life.

5. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the device. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents. Ensure the ventilation holes are free from dust and debris.
  • Battery Care: To prolong battery life, avoid fully discharging the device frequently. If storing for an extended period, charge the battery to approximately 50% and store in a cool, dry place. Recharge every few months to prevent deep discharge.
  • Storage: Store the device in a safe place, away from extreme temperatures, humidity, and direct sunlight.

6. Troubleshooting

Problem Possible Cause Solution

8. User Tips

  • Outdoor Camping: Hang the device inside your tent or near your cooking area to monitor CO and CO2 levels, especially when using fuel-burning appliances. The flashlight can be useful at night.
  • Cave Exploration: The device's ability to detect CO2 is critical in confined spaces where CO2 can accumulate rapidly. Always monitor levels closely.
  • Home Safety: Place the detector in areas where carbon monoxide or carbon dioxide might be a concern, such as kitchens, bedrooms, or garages, to ensure a safe indoor air environment.
  • UV Protection: Pay attention to the UV Index readings and take appropriate sun protection measures when the UVI is high.
  • App Integration (PTH-28B): Utilize the PROTMEX app to track historical data and analyze trends, which can help identify patterns in air quality over time.
