7. Maintenance

Proper care and maintenance will extend the life of your filing cabinet.

  • Cleaning: Wipe surfaces with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals, which can damage the melamine finish.
  • Spills: Clean up spills immediately to prevent staining or damage to the wood material.
  • Hardware: Periodically check all screws and fasteners to ensure they remain tight. Retighten if necessary.
  • Locks: If locks become stiff, a small amount of graphite lubricant can be applied to the keyhole.
  • Avoid Direct Sunlight: Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight can cause fading or discoloration.

8. Troubleshooting

Here are some common issues and their solutions:

  • Drawers are stiff or not sliding smoothly:
    • Check if the drawer slides are properly aligned and free of obstructions.
    • Ensure the cabinet is on a level surface.
    • Verify that the drawer slides are securely attached to both the cabinet and the drawer box.
  • Drawer does not lock:
    • Ensure the drawer is fully closed and flush with the cabinet frame.
    • Check if the key is fully inserted and turned correctly.
    • Inspect the lock mechanism for any visible damage or obstruction.
  • Cabinet feels wobbly:
    • Ensure all assembly screws are tightened.
    • Verify that the cabinet is placed on a flat and stable surface.
    • Confirm that the anti-rollover kit is correctly installed and secured to the wall.

9. User Tips

  • Organize by Category: Utilize the three drawers to categorize your documents (e.g., active projects, archives, personal files) for quick access.
  • Label Drawers: Consider labeling the drawer fronts to easily identify contents, especially for locked drawers.
  • Weight Distribution: When loading the cabinet, distribute weight evenly across the drawers and avoid placing excessively heavy items in a single drawer or on the very top to maintain stability.
  • Key Management: Designate a specific, secure place for your spare keys to avoid being locked out of your important documents.
