4. Setup Guide

4.1 Initial Connection

  1. Connect Power: Plug the provided power adapter into the router's power input port and then into a wall outlet.
  2. Connect to Internet: Connect your modem or main internet line to any of the four adaptive WAN/LAN ports on the back of the router using the included network cable. The router's ports are self-adaptive, meaning they automatically detect whether they are being used for WAN or LAN.
  3. Connect Devices: For wired connections, connect your computers or other network devices to the remaining adaptive WAN/LAN ports. For wireless connections, search for the router's Wi-Fi network (SSID) on your device and connect using the default password (usually found on a sticker on the router or in the manual).

6. Maintenance

  • Keep Clean: Regularly clean the router's exterior with a soft, dry cloth. Ensure ventilation holes are free from dust and obstructions.
  • Firmware Updates: Check the Mi Home App periodically for firmware updates. Keeping your router's firmware up-to-date ensures optimal performance, security, and access to new features.
  • Placement: Place the router in a central location, away from large metal objects, thick walls, and interference sources (like microwaves or cordless phones) to maximize Wi-Fi coverage.
  • Power Cycle: If you experience network issues, try power cycling the router by unplugging it from the power outlet for 10 seconds and then plugging it back in.

7. Troubleshooting

7.1 No Internet Connection

  • Check if the modem is working correctly.
  • Ensure the network cable is securely connected from the modem to one of the router's WAN/LAN ports.
  • Verify that the router's indicator lights are showing normal operation (refer to the full manual for specific light meanings).
  • Try power cycling both the modem and the router.

7.2 Wi-Fi Signal Issues

  • Relocate the router to a more central position in your home.
  • Ensure there are no major obstructions (e.g., thick concrete walls, large appliances) between your devices and the router.
  • Check for interference from other electronic devices.
  • Consider setting up a Mesh network with additional Xiaomi Mesh compatible routers for wider coverage.

7.3 Cannot Add Router to Mi Home App

  • Confirm that your smartphone is connected to the router's Wi-Fi network.
  • Crucially, ensure the Mi Home App's region setting is set to "Chinese mainland". This is a common requirement for this specific router model.
  • Restart the router and try adding it again.

7.4 Resetting the Router

If you encounter persistent issues or forget your router's settings, you can perform a factory reset:

  1. With the router powered on, locate the "Reset" button on the back of the device (often a small pinhole).
  2. Use a paperclip or a similar pointed object to press and hold the Reset button for approximately 5-10 seconds until the indicator lights change.
  3. Release the button. The router will restart with factory default settings. You will need to reconfigure it from scratch.
