1. Introduction

Thank you for choosing the TASI TA642 Series Digital Anemometer. This device is designed for accurate measurement of air velocity, air temperature, and air flow. It is available in three models: TA642A, TA642B, and TA642C, each offering specific features to suit various environmental testing needs. This manual provides essential information for the safe and effective operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of your anemometer.

2. Safety Information

Please read and understand all safety warnings and operating instructions before using this instrument. Failure to do so may result in injury or damage to the instrument.

  • Do not operate the instrument if it appears damaged or is not functioning properly.
  • Ensure batteries are inserted correctly according to polarity markings.
  • Remove batteries if the instrument is not to be used for an extended period to prevent leakage.
  • Keep the fan blades clear of obstructions during operation.
  • Avoid exposing the instrument to extreme temperatures, humidity, or direct sunlight.
  • Do not attempt to disassemble or modify the instrument. Refer servicing to qualified personnel.

3.1 Parts Identification (TA642A/B)

3.2 Detachable Probe (TA642C)

The TA642C model features a split-type probe with an 8-blade fan design and a 1m flexible stainless handle, connected via a four-hole aviation plug for stable signal transmission.

4. Setup

4.1 Battery Installation

  1. Open the battery compartment cover on the back of the instrument.
  2. Insert 3 x 1.5V AA (LR06) batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
  3. Close the battery compartment cover securely.

Note: Batteries are not included. The device also supports external power supply via USB.

4.2 Probe Connection (TA642C only)

For the TA642C model, connect the external probe to the main unit using the four-hole aviation plug. Ensure the connection is firm and secure.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Power On/Off

  • To power on, long press the Power button.
  • To power off, long press the Power button again.
  • The instrument features an automatic power-off function after 15 minutes of inactivity, which can be disabled if desired.

5.2 Measurement Modes and Units

  • Press the MODE button to cycle through different measurement modes (e.g., air velocity, air temperature, air flow).
  • Press the UNIT °C/°F button to switch between different measurement units for air velocity (m/s, ft/min, km/h, mph, knots) and temperature (°C/°F).

5.3 Data Hold, Max/Min, and Zeroing

  • Press HOLD/ZERO to freeze the current reading on the display. Press again to release.
  • Press MAX/MIN to view the maximum or minimum recorded values during a measurement session.

5.4 Data Recording and Storage

  • Press the REC button to start or stop data recording. The device can store up to 1000 groups of data.
  • For models TA642B/C, recorded data can be exported to a PC via USB connection.

5.5 Alarm Function

The anemometer allows setting upper and lower alarm limits. If the measured value exceeds these limits, a buzzer will sound, and the alarm indicator light will flash.

5.6 USB Connection (TA642B/C only)

Connect the TA642B or TA642C to a PC using a USB cable. This allows for downloading recorded data, viewing real-time data sheets, and generating charts for analysis.

7. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Wipe the instrument with a dry, soft cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Storage: When not in use for extended periods, remove the batteries to prevent leakage. Store the instrument in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Fan Blades: Keep the fan blades clean and free from dust or debris to ensure accurate readings.

8. Troubleshooting

Instrument does not power on:
Check if batteries are installed correctly and have sufficient charge. Replace batteries if necessary.
Inaccurate readings:
Ensure the fan blades are clean and unobstructed. Verify that the probe (TA642C) is securely connected. Check for stable environmental conditions.
USB connection not working (TA642B/C):
Ensure the USB cable is properly connected to both the anemometer and the PC. Check if the necessary drivers are installed on your computer.
Alarm not sounding:
Verify that the alarm limits are set correctly and that the measured value is indeed outside these limits.

9. User Tips

  • For consistent readings, ensure the anemometer's fan is positioned directly into the airflow.
  • When measuring air flow in ducts or vents, use the telescopic handle (TA642C) or position the integrated fan (TA642A/B) carefully to avoid turbulence from your hand.
  • Regularly check battery levels, especially before critical measurements, to avoid interruptions.
  • Utilize the data recording feature for long-term monitoring and trend analysis, especially with the PC connection for TA642B/C models.
