The DUALSKY GEMINI 3018 is an advanced 18-channel redundant power distribution system designed to provide reliable and stable power to critical components in large-scale RC models, including gasoline models, jets, and drones. It features dual battery input for redundancy, a high-current linear regulated output, and support for various serial bus protocols, ensuring maximum safety and performance for your high-value models.

5. Setup and Installation

5.1 Component Overview

5.2 Physical Installation

  1. Mounting the GEMINI 3018: Securely mount the GEMINI 3018 unit within your model. Ensure it is placed in a location that minimizes exposure to vibration and allows for good airflow.
  2. Vibration Damping: When the GEMINI 3018 is used in environments with strong vibrations, it is necessary to install shock-absorbing rubber fittings to protect the unit.

5.3 Battery Connections

  1. The GEMINI 3018 power supply is specifically designed for 7.4V (2S) lithium polymer batteries.
  2. Connect your two 7.4V LiPo batteries to the BATT 1 and BATT 2 ports on the GEMINI 3018. Use MPX adapters if necessary for your battery connectors.
  3. Ensure correct polarity when connecting batteries.

5.4 Receiver and Signal Connections

  1. The GEMINI 3018 supports dual receiver input for signal redundancy. Connect your primary receiver to SERIAL RX 1 and your secondary receiver to SERIAL RX 2.
  2. The system supports Futaba S.BUS, JETI EX.BUS, and Spektrum SRXL protocols. Ensure your receivers are configured correctly for these protocols.
  3. If using DUALSKY S.HUB MINI modules (included in Deluxe version), connect them to the S.BUS1/S.BUS2 servo ports or as per the S.HUB MINI instructions.

5.5 Servo and Peripheral Connections

  1. Connect your servos and other peripherals to the 18-channel PWM output ports.
  2. Utilize the 2 HPB outputs for high-power devices, each capable of delivering up to 30A.
  3. Ensure all connections are secure and correctly oriented.

5.6 FSS-5 Electronic Switch

  1. Connect the FSS-5 electronic switch to the designated 'SWITCH' port on the GEMINI 3018.
  2. The FSS-5 switch is a dedicated safety electronic switch with a Fail-Safe function. Any damage or disconnection of the switch will NOT cause the main unit to power off, ensuring continuous power to your model.

6. Operation

6.1 Powering On/Off

  1. To power on the system, ensure both batteries are connected, then activate the FSS-5 electronic switch.
  2. To power off, deactivate the FSS-5 switch.

6.2 Indicator Lights

The GEMINI 3018 features several indicator lights to provide system status:

  • Signal Indicator: Provides comprehensive signal status.
  • HV Indicator: Indicates high voltage output status.
  • Load Indicator: Shows the current load status.
  • Alarm Indicator: Illuminates in case of a system alarm or fault.

7. Maintenance

  • Regularly inspect all wiring and connectors for signs of wear, damage, or loose connections.
  • Keep the GEMINI 3018 unit clean and free from dust, dirt, and moisture.
  • Ensure adequate ventilation around the unit during operation to prevent overheating.
  • Periodically check battery health and charge levels.

8. Troubleshooting

  • No Power: Check battery connections, ensure batteries are charged, and verify the FSS-5 switch is in the 'ON' position.
  • Intermittent Power/Signal: Inspect all wiring for loose connections or damage. Ensure receivers are properly bound and configured.
  • Alarm Indicator On: Refer to the specific alarm code (if available) or consult the DUALSKY support for diagnosis. This typically indicates an issue with power input, output, or internal fault.
  • Servos Not Responding: Verify receiver connections, ensure the GEMINI 3018 is powered, and check individual servo connections.

9. User Tips

  • Always perform a range check and functional test of all control surfaces and systems before each flight.
  • Use high-quality, matched batteries for redundant power systems to ensure balanced discharge and optimal performance.
  • Consider using a battery checker to monitor individual cell voltages before and after flights.
  • Proper cable management is crucial to prevent interference and ensure reliable connections in complex models.
  • For models with high current draw, ensure your battery connectors (e.g., MPX) are rated for the expected current.
