5. Setup Guide
5.1 Unboxing and Initial Assembly
Your KETELES KF9 E-bike comes partially assembled. Carefully remove all packaging materials. The bike is designed for quick folding and unfolding.
- Unfolding the Frame: Locate the main folding hinge on the frame. Release the safety latch and unfold the frame until it locks into place. Secure the latch.
- Handlebar Assembly: Raise the handlebar stem and secure it with the quick-release lever. Adjust the handlebar height to your preference and tighten the clamp.
- Seat Post Installation: Insert the seat post into the frame tube. Adjust the seat height for comfortable pedaling and secure it with the quick-release clamp.
- Pedal Installation: The pedals may need to be screwed into the crank arms. Note that pedals are typically marked 'L' for left and 'R' for right, and the left pedal has a reverse thread.
- Front Basket Installation: Attach the front basket to the designated mounting points on the handlebars or front fork, following the provided hardware instructions.
5.2 Battery Installation and Initial Charge
The battery is likely shipped partially charged. For optimal performance and battery longevity, fully charge the battery before your first ride.
- Install Battery: Slide the battery into its compartment on the frame until it clicks securely into place. Use the key to lock the battery.
- Charging: Connect the charger to a standard wall outlet and then to the charging port on the battery (or remove the battery for charging). The indicator light on the charger will show the charging status (e.g., red for charging, green for full).
- Charging Time: Allow several hours for a full charge. Do not overcharge the battery.
5.3 Tire Inflation
Check the tire pressure before your first ride. The recommended pressure is usually indicated on the tire sidewall. Use a bicycle pump to inflate the tires to the correct PSI.

Figure 6.2: Three power modes for varied riding experiences.
- Pure Human Riding Mode (0% assist): Ride the bike like a traditional bicycle, using only pedal power. The motor provides no assistance.
- Pedal Assisted Riding Mode (30%-50% assist): As you pedal, the motor provides assistance. This mode is energy efficient and extends your range.
- Activating PAS: Simply start pedaling. The motor will engage.
- Adjusting PAS Level: Press the "+" or "-" buttons on the control panel to increase or decrease the pedal assist level from 1 to 5. Level 5 provides maximum assistance.
- Fully Electric Mode (90%-110% assist): Use the throttle to propel the bike without pedaling. This mode provides full motor power.
- Activating Fully Electric Mode: Simply twist the throttle on the handlebar.
6.3 Gear Shifting
The KETELES KF9 is equipped with a 7-speed Shimano freewheel.
- Use the shift lever on the handlebar to change gears.
- Shift to lower gears for climbing hills and higher gears for flat terrain or downhill riding.
- Avoid shifting gears while under heavy load or when stationary to prevent damage to the drivetrain.
7. Maintenance
7.1 Battery Care
- Charging: Always use the original charger. Do not leave the battery charging unattended for extended periods.
- Storage: If storing the bike for a long time, charge the battery to 50-70% and store it in a cool, dry place. Recharge every 1-2 months to prevent deep discharge.
- Cleaning: Keep battery terminals clean and dry.
7.2 General Cleaning
- Clean the bike regularly with a damp cloth and mild soap. Avoid using high-pressure washers directly on electrical components.
- Dry the bike thoroughly after cleaning.
7.3 Tire Maintenance
- Regularly check tire pressure and inflate to the recommended PSI.
- Inspect tires for wear, cuts, or punctures.
7.4 Brake System
- Regularly check brake pads for wear and replace them when necessary.
- Ensure brake levers are responsive and provide adequate stopping power. Adjust brake cables if needed.
7.5 Drivetrain
- Keep the chain clean and lubricated to ensure smooth shifting and prevent rust.
- Inspect the freewheel and chainring for wear.
7.6 Fasteners
- Periodically check all bolts, nuts, and quick-release levers to ensure they are securely tightened.
8. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| E-bike does not power on | Battery not charged, battery not installed correctly, power button not pressed long enough. | Charge battery, ensure battery is securely installed and locked, press 'M' button for 2-5 seconds. |
| Motor not assisting | PAS level too low, battery low, motor connection loose, brake lever engaged. | Increase PAS level, charge battery, check motor cable connections, ensure brake levers are fully released. |
| Short range | Low tire pressure, riding in high assist modes, frequent stops/starts, cold weather. | Inflate tires to correct PSI, use lower PAS levels, maintain consistent speed, battery performance decreases in cold. |
| Brakes feel weak | Worn brake pads, loose brake cable, contaminated rotors. | Inspect and replace brake pads, adjust brake cable tension, clean rotors with disc brake cleaner. |
| Gears not shifting smoothly | Dirty/dry chain, bent derailleur, misaligned shifter. | Clean and lubricate chain, inspect derailleur for damage, adjust shifter cable tension. |
9. User Tips
- Folding for Transport: The KF9 folds easily in about 8 seconds. Practice folding and unfolding to make transport and storage quick and efficient.
- Battery Longevity: For best battery life, avoid completely draining the battery. Charge it regularly, even if not fully depleted.
- Terrain Adaptability: The fat tires and powerful motor make this e-bike suitable for various terrains. Adjust your riding mode and gear according to the surface for optimal performance and safety.
- Regular Checks: A quick check of tire pressure, brake function, and battery level before each ride can prevent many common issues.
