4. Safety Instructions
To prevent injury or damage, always observe basic safety precautions, including the following:
- Read and follow all instructions carefully.
- This appliance is for indoor use only.
- Do not operate any appliance if it has a damaged cord or plug, or if it malfunctions or has been dropped or damaged in any manner.
- To avoid the possibility of the appliance plug or receptacle getting wet, position the aquarium stand and tank to one side of a wall-mounted receptacle to prevent water from dripping onto the receptacle or plug. A “drip loop” should be arranged by the user for each cord connecting an aquarium appliance to a receptacle. The “drip loop” is the part of the cord below the level of the receptacle, or the connector if an extension cord is used, to prevent water from traveling along the cord and coming into contact with the receptacle. If the plug or receptacle does get wet, DO NOT unplug the cord. Disconnect the fuse or circuit breaker that supplies power to the appliance. Then, unplug and examine for presence of water in the receptacle.
- Close supervision is necessary when any appliance is used by or near children.
- Always unplug the appliance from the outlet when not in use, before putting on or taking off parts, and before cleaning. Never yank cord to pull plug from outlet. Grasp the plug and pull to disconnect.
- Do not use the appliance for anything other than its intended use. The use of attachments not recommended or sold by the appliance manufacturer may cause an unsafe condition.
- Do not install or store the appliance where it will be exposed to the weather or to temperatures below freezing.
- Ensure the pump is fully submerged in water during operation to prevent dry running and damage.
- The pump is designed for both marine and freshwater use and contains no copper, making it safe for sensitive aquatic life.
5. Setup and Installation
Follow these steps to properly set up your Jebao DCQ/ACQ pump:
- Unpack Components: Carefully remove all items from the packaging and ensure all parts listed in Section 3 are present and undamaged.
- Position the Pump: Place the pump unit securely at the desired location within your sump or aquarium. Ensure it is fully submerged and stable. The pump is designed for sitting installation.
- Connect Plumbing: Attach the appropriate hose connectors/fittings to the pump's inlet and outlet. Connect your aquarium plumbing (hoses or rigid pipes) to these fittings. Ensure all connections are tight to prevent leaks.
- Connect to Controller: Connect the pump's power cable to the DCQ Pump Driver (controller).
- Connect Power Adapter: Connect the power adapter to the DCQ Pump Driver.
- Power On: Plug the power adapter into a suitable electrical outlet (100-240V for DCQ series, 220V for ACQ series). Ensure a drip loop is formed with the power cord.

6. Operation
Once powered on, the controller's digital display will illuminate. The pump will start operating at its last saved setting due to the memory function.
6.1 Controller Functions
- Power Display: The digital display shows the current working power of the pump.
- Flow Regulation: Use the '+' and '-' buttons to adjust the flow rate through 6 available gears.
- Feed Mode: Press the 'W/F' button once to activate Feed Mode. The pump will temporarily shut off for a set period (e.g., 10 minutes) to allow for feeding without water disturbance. Press 'W/F' again to resume normal operation.
- Wave Mode: Press and hold the 'W/F' button to activate Wave Mode (if available on your model). This mode creates varying flow patterns to simulate natural ocean waves. Refer to your specific model's documentation for detailed wave mode settings.
- Memory Function: The pump automatically saves your last operating settings (flow rate, mode) and will resume these settings upon restart after a power outage.
7. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and longevity of your pump.
- Disconnect Power: ALWAYS unplug the pump from the power outlet before performing any maintenance.
- Remove Pump: Carefully remove the pump unit from the aquarium or sump.
- Disassemble: Disassemble the pump housing and remove the impeller.
- Clean Components: Use a soft brush and clean water (or a mild vinegar solution for stubborn deposits) to clean the impeller, impeller chamber, and pump housing. Ensure all debris, algae, and mineral deposits are removed.
- Inspect: Inspect the impeller for any signs of wear or damage. Check the power cord for any fraying or damage.
- Reassemble: Reassemble the pump, ensuring all parts are correctly seated and secured.
- Reinstall: Place the pump back into the aquarium or sump and reconnect the plumbing and power.
Frequency: It is recommended to clean the pump every 1-3 months, depending on your aquarium's bioload and water conditions.
8. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your pump, refer to the following common problems and solutions:
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Pump does not turn on | No power; loose connection; pump or controller malfunction | Check power outlet and connections. Ensure controller is properly connected. If still not working, contact support. |
| Reduced flow rate | Clogged impeller/intake; air in pump; incorrect flow setting | Clean impeller and intake. Ensure pump is fully submerged and free of air bubbles. Adjust flow setting on controller. |
| Pump is noisy | Debris in impeller; worn impeller; pump not stable | Clean impeller. Ensure pump is securely placed and not vibrating against surfaces. If noise persists, impeller may need replacement. |
| Controller displays error/shuts off | Dry run protection activated; locked rotor protection activated | Check water level to ensure pump is fully submerged. Inspect impeller for obstructions. Restart pump after addressing the issue. |

10. User Tips
- Initial Priming: When first installing or after cleaning, ensure the pump is fully submerged and allow a few moments for it to prime itself and expel any trapped air before expecting full flow.
- Controller Placement: Position the controller in a dry, easily accessible location away from direct splashes to prevent water damage.
- Utilize Feed Mode: The Feed Mode is very useful for preventing food from being immediately drawn into overflows or filtration systems, allowing your fish more time to eat.
- Regular Inspections: Periodically check the pump's intake for blockages from debris or algae, which can significantly reduce performance and increase wear.
- Power Outage Resilience: Thanks to the memory function, you don't need to reprogram your pump settings after a power interruption, making it convenient for daily use.
