4. Setup & Installation

Before installation, ensure your vehicle's battery is disconnected. Proper wiring is crucial for optimal performance and safety. Refer to the diagram below for connection details.

Figure 4.1: Two Types of Connection for AMP-268 Amplifier

This diagram illustrates two primary methods for connecting your amplifier. Connection Type 01 shows wiring for a standard 4-channel setup, including Negative Power Supply, +12V Power Supply, Control Line, Double Safe Fuse, and connections for Rear Speakers (Left/Right) and Front Speakers (Left/Right). Connection Type 02 demonstrates a configuration that includes a Subwoofer, along with the necessary Cathode, Anode, Control Line, Double Safe Fuse, and connections for Positive Front Right Speaker and Subwoofer.

4.1 Power Connections

  • Negative Power Supply (GND): Connect to a clean, unpainted metal surface of the vehicle chassis.
  • +12V Power Supply (B+): Connect directly to the positive terminal of the vehicle's battery using a heavy-gauge power cable. Ensure an inline fuse (Double Safe Fuse) is installed close to the battery.
  • Control Line (REMOTE): Connect to the remote turn-on lead from your head unit. This wire turns the amplifier on and off with your car's stereo.

4.2 Speaker Connections

The AMP-268 supports both standard 4-channel stereo and bridged configurations for higher power output to specific speakers or subwoofers.

  • Standard Stereo Connection (Type 01): Connect your Left and Right Rear Speakers to the 'REAR SPEAKER' terminals (Left/Right Positive and Negative). Connect your Left and Right Front Speakers to the 'FRONT SPEAKER' terminals (Left/Right Positive and Negative).
  • Subwoofer Connection (Type 02): For a subwoofer, you can bridge two channels. Connect the subwoofer's positive terminal to the 'BRIDGE' positive terminal and its negative terminal to the 'BRIDGE' negative terminal (refer to the diagram for specific bridge connections, typically using the positive of one channel and negative of an adjacent channel).

Always ensure correct polarity (+ to + and - to -) when connecting speakers to avoid phase issues and poor sound quality.

5. Operating Instructions

The AMP-268 features a control panel for fine-tuning your audio output. Familiarize yourself with the functions shown below:

Figure 5.1: In-Vehicle Amplifier Panel Functions

This image details the control panel of the AMP-268. It includes indicators for PRT (Protection) and PWR (Power), High-Pass Filter (HPF) and Low-Pass Filter (LPF) controls, GAIN adjustment knobs for input sensitivity, Treble adjustment, High-frequency regulation, Low-frequency regulation, and RCA Audio Input/Output ports.

5.1 Control Panel Functions

  • PRT (Protection) Indicator: Illuminates when the amplifier is in protection mode due to overload, short circuit, or overheating.
  • PWR (Power) Indicator: Illuminates when the amplifier is powered on and operating normally.
  • HPF (High-Pass Filter): Adjusts the cutoff frequency for high-pass filtering. Used for main speakers to prevent low frequencies from reaching them.
  • LPF (Low-Pass Filter): Adjusts the cutoff frequency for low-pass filtering. Used for subwoofers to ensure only low frequencies are passed.
  • GAIN (Input Sensitivity): Controls the input signal level. Adjust this to match the output of your head unit. Start low and increase gradually to avoid distortion.
  • Treble Adjustment: Fine-tunes the high-frequency response.
  • High-Frequency Regulation: Provides broader control over the high-frequency range.
  • Low-Frequency Regulation (Bass Boost): Enhances the bass response. Use with caution to avoid distortion.
  • Audio Output/Input (RCA): RCA jacks for connecting audio sources (input) and potentially passing audio to other amplifiers (output).

5.2 Initial Setup and Adjustment

  1. After all connections are secure, reconnect your vehicle's battery.
  2. Turn on your head unit. The amplifier's PWR indicator should light up.
  3. Set all GAIN controls to their minimum (lowest) setting.
  4. Play a familiar piece of music at a moderate volume level on your head unit.
  5. Slowly increase the GAIN control on the amplifier until you hear distortion, then back it off slightly. Repeat for all channels.
  6. Adjust HPF and LPF settings according to your speaker types. For main speakers, use HPF to filter out bass. For subwoofers, use LPF to filter out highs.
  7. Fine-tune Treble and Low-Frequency Regulation (Bass Boost) to your preference, ensuring sound remains clear and undistorted.

6. Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your BOMGE AMP-268 amplifier, follow these maintenance guidelines:

  • Cleaning: Regularly wipe the amplifier's exterior with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
  • Ventilation: Ensure the amplifier's heat dissipation holes are clear of obstructions. The aluminum alloy heat dissipation design relies on good airflow to prevent overheating.
  • Connections: Periodically check all wiring connections for tightness and corrosion. Loose connections can lead to poor performance or damage.
  • Environment: Avoid exposing the amplifier to extreme temperatures, direct sunlight, or excessive moisture.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your amplifier, consult the following troubleshooting guide before seeking professional assistance:

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
No Power (PWR indicator off)Blown fuse, loose power/ground wire, faulty remote turn-on.Check and replace fuse. Verify all power and ground connections are secure. Ensure remote wire is connected and receiving 12V.
Protection Mode (PRT indicator on)Overheating, speaker short circuit, impedance mismatch.Allow amplifier to cool down. Check speaker wires for shorts. Verify speaker impedance matches amplifier's specifications.
No Sound OutputLoose RCA cables, incorrect input selection, speaker wires disconnected.Check RCA connections from head unit to amplifier. Ensure speaker wires are securely connected to both amplifier and speakers.
Distorted SoundGAIN set too high, incorrect filter settings, poor quality audio source.Reduce GAIN settings. Adjust HPF/LPF appropriately. Test with a different audio source.
Hissing or NoiseGround loop, poor quality RCA cables, interference.Ensure proper grounding. Use shielded RCA cables. Reroute power and audio cables to minimize interference.
