3.2 Electronic Speed Controller (ESC) Connection

Connect the motor to a compatible brushless Electronic Speed Controller (ESC). For optimal performance, the DUALSKY SUMMIT 100HV (Pattern Flight Edition) ESC is highly recommended. This ESC features a 32-bit core, smart timing, and energy recovery brakes for excellent efficiency and control.

Ensure the three motor wires are correctly connected to the ESC. If the motor spins in the wrong direction, swap any two of the three motor wires.

3.3 Battery and Propeller Selection

Refer to the specifications table (Table 1) for the recommended battery voltage (6S, 8S, or 10S LiPo) and propeller sizes for your specific motor KV variant. Using the correct battery and propeller combination is crucial for safety and performance.

  • XM6352DA-16 (360KV): Recommended for 6S LiPo with propellers like 19x12E, 20x10E, 20x13E*.
  • XM6352DA-20 (285KV): Recommended for 8S LiPo with propellers like 19x12E, 20x10E, 20x13E*.
  • XM6352DA-24 (240KV): Recommended for 8S-10S LiPo with propellers like 21x12E, 22x10E (8S) or 19x12E, 20x13E* (10S).
  • XM6352DA-26 (220KV): Recommended for 10S LiPo with propellers like 19x12E, 20x13E*.

*Note: Propeller 20x13E may require good throttle management in some conditions.

4. Operating Instructions

Once the motor, ESC, battery, and propeller are correctly installed and connected, follow these general operating guidelines:

  1. Pre-Flight Check: Before each flight, ensure all connections are secure, the propeller is tightly fastened, and there are no obstructions to the motor or propeller.
  2. Initial Power-Up: Connect the battery to the ESC. Listen for the ESC's initialization tones.
  3. Throttle Control: Gradually increase throttle to ensure smooth acceleration. Avoid sudden, full-throttle bursts, especially with larger propellers, to prevent excessive current draw and heat buildup.
  4. Monitor Temperatures: During and after flight, periodically check the motor and ESC temperatures. Excessive heat can indicate an overloaded system or improper setup.
  5. Flight Duration: Adhere to recommended flight times based on your battery capacity and power consumption to prevent over-discharging the battery.
  6. Post-Flight Inspection: After each flight, inspect the motor for any signs of damage, loose connections, or unusual wear.

5. Maintenance

The Dualsky 6352DA motor is designed for high durability and low maintenance, thanks to its quality components:

Figure 12: The motor features 3 EZO bearings and precisely balanced rotors, allowing for maintenance-free operation up to 1000 flights.
  • Regular Cleaning: Keep the motor free from dirt, dust, and debris. Use compressed air or a soft brush to clean the motor, especially the cooling fan area.
  • Bearing Inspection: While the EZO bearings are designed for long life, periodically check for any signs of roughness or excessive play. If issues arise, contact support for guidance.
  • Shaft and Propeller Adapter: Ensure the motor shaft and propeller adapter remain straight and free from bends or damage.
  • Wire Connections: Regularly inspect all wiring for fraying, cuts, or loose connections.
  • Storage: Store the motor in a dry, cool environment away from direct sunlight and corrosive materials.

6. Troubleshooting

This section addresses common issues you might encounter with your Dualsky 6352DA motor.

Motor Not Spinning or Stuttering:
  • Check all wiring connections between the motor and ESC for looseness or incorrect polarity.
  • Ensure the battery is fully charged and capable of delivering the required current.
  • Verify that the ESC is properly calibrated with your radio transmitter.
  • Inspect the motor for any physical obstructions or damage to the rotor or stator.
Low Power or Inconsistent Performance:
  • Confirm that the correct propeller size and pitch are being used as per the specifications (Table 1).
  • Check battery health and discharge rate (C-rating). An old or weak battery may not supply sufficient power.
  • Ensure the ESC settings (timing, PWM frequency) are appropriate for the motor.
  • Inspect for any damage to the motor windings or magnets.
Motor Overheating:
  • Using an oversized propeller or one with too much pitch can cause overheating. Refer to recommended propellers.
  • Incorrect ESC timing settings can lead to inefficiency and heat.
  • Ensure adequate airflow around the motor for cooling, especially with the centrifugal cooling fan design.
  • An overloaded system (e.g., too heavy an aircraft for the motor/prop combination) can cause overheating.

7. User Tips

  • Battery and ESC Matching: For optimal performance and longevity, always match your battery voltage (6S, 8S, or 10S LiPo) and ESC to the specific KV rating of your Dualsky 6352DA motor as detailed in the specifications. The DUALSKY SUMMIT 100HV ESC is highly recommended for its compatibility and features.
  • Propeller Selection: Experiment with recommended propeller sizes to find the best balance of thrust and efficiency for your specific aircraft and flying style. Always stay within the motor's specified limits.
  • Throttle Management: When using larger or higher-pitch propellers, especially those marked with an asterisk in the specifications, practice good throttle management to avoid excessive current spikes and potential overheating.
  • Regular Inspection: Despite the maintenance-free EZO bearings, a quick visual inspection of the motor and connections before and after each flight can prevent minor issues from becoming major problems.
