4. Setup and Installation

4.1 Mounting the Controller

The XM-18S is designed for panel mounting. Ensure you have a suitable opening in your incubator or control panel that matches the controller's dimensions (refer to Section 2: Specifications).

4.2 Sensor Connection

  1. Connect the temperature sensor to its designated port on the controller.
  2. Connect the humidity sensor to its designated port on the controller.
  3. Position both sensors inside the incubator, ensuring they are not directly exposed to heating elements or water, which could lead to inaccurate readings.

4.3 Wiring External Components

The controller provides output terminals for connecting external devices such as heaters, humidifiers, and egg turning motors. Refer to the wiring diagram (if provided with your specific unit) for correct connections. Ensure all wiring is done by a qualified individual and adheres to local electrical safety standards.

4.4 Power Connection

Connect the controller to a stable power supply according to its voltage requirements. Once powered on, the color screen display will illuminate.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Display Overview

Close-up of the XM-18S incubation thermostat's display and buttons
Close-up view of the XM-18S incubation thermostat's digital display and control panel. The display shows numerical values for temperature and humidity, along with various status icons. Buttons are labeled for functions such as 'Reset', 'Set', '+', '-', 'Mode', 'Temperature', 'Humidity', 'Egg Turning'.

The color screen displays real-time temperature and humidity readings. Various indicators show the status of heating, humidification, and egg turning cycles.

5.2 Control Buttons

  • SET: Enters parameter setting mode. Press again to cycle through parameters.
  • +: Increases the value of the selected parameter.
  • -: Decreases the value of the selected parameter.
  • MODE: Switches between different operating modes or confirms settings.
  • TEMPERATURE: Likely a shortcut or indicator for temperature settings.
  • HUMIDITY: Likely a shortcut or indicator for humidity settings.
  • EGG TURNING: Manually activates or adjusts egg turning cycles.
  • RESET: Resets the controller or clears alarms.

5.3 Setting Temperature and Humidity

  1. Press the SET button to enter the temperature setting mode. The temperature value will flash.
  2. Use the + and - buttons to adjust the desired temperature.
  3. Press SET again to confirm the temperature and move to the next parameter (e.g., humidity).
  4. Adjust humidity using the + and - buttons.
  5. Continue pressing SET to cycle through other parameters (e.g., temperature alarm limits, humidity alarm limits, egg turning interval, egg turning duration).
  6. Once all parameters are set, wait a few seconds for the display to return to normal operation, or press MODE to exit the setting mode.

5.4 Egg Turning Settings

The controller can automate egg turning. Access the egg turning parameters via the SET button sequence. You can typically set:

  • Turning Interval: How often eggs are turned (e.g., every 2 hours).
  • Turning Duration: How long the egg turning motor operates for each turn (e.g., 10-15 seconds).

5.5 Wi-Fi Connectivity (Optional)

If your XM-18S model includes Wi-Fi, refer to the specific instructions provided with your unit for connecting to your local network and using the associated mobile application for remote monitoring and control.

6. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Wipe the controller's surface with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or allow liquids to enter the unit.
  • Sensor Care: Keep temperature and humidity sensors clean and free from debris. Avoid physical damage to the sensor probes.
  • Calibration: Periodically check the accuracy of the temperature and humidity readings against a known calibrated device. If significant discrepancies are found, the controller may require recalibration (refer to advanced settings or contact support).
  • Storage: If storing the unit for an extended period, disconnect it from power, clean it thoroughly, and store it in a dry, dust-free environment.

7. Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Display is blankNo power or power cable loose.Check power connection and ensure the power supply is active.
Inaccurate temperature/humidity readingsSensor faulty, dirty, or improperly placed.Clean sensors, ensure proper placement away from direct heat/water. Replace if faulty.
Heater/Humidifier not activatingWiring issue, setpoint not reached, or external device faulty.Verify wiring connections. Check setpoints and differentials. Test external devices independently.
Egg turning not workingMotor wiring issue, motor faulty, or turning parameters incorrect.Check motor wiring. Verify egg turning interval and duration settings. Test motor.

8. User Tips

  • Stable Environment: Place your incubator in a room with stable ambient temperature to minimize fluctuations and improve controller efficiency.
  • Pre-test: Always run your incubator with the XM-18S controller for at least 24-48 hours before placing eggs to ensure stable operation and correct settings.
  • Sensor Placement: Ensure sensors are placed at egg level and away from direct airflow or water sources for the most accurate readings.
  • Regular Checks: Even with automatic control, periodically check the incubator's temperature and humidity with a secondary, calibrated thermometer/hygrometer.

9. Warranty and Support

This product is typically covered by a manufacturer's warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. Please retain your proof of purchase for warranty claims.
