5. Installation & Setup

Proper installation is crucial for the effective operation of your gas detector. Follow these steps carefully:

5.1 Choosing an Installation Location

  • For Natural Gas (Methane): Natural gas is lighter than air and tends to rise. Install the detector 30 cm (12 inches) below the ceiling and within 1.5 meters (5 feet) of the gas appliance.
  • For Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG/Propane): LPG is heavier than air and tends to sink. Install the detector 30 cm (12 inches) above the floor and within 1.5 meters (5 feet) of the gas appliance.
  • General Guidelines: Avoid installing the detector in areas with strong air currents (near windows, doors, or ventilation fans), in direct sunlight, or in areas with high humidity. Do not install directly above cooking appliances.

5.2 Mounting the Detector

The detector can be mounted using screws or double-sided adhesive tape.

  1. Screw Mounting:
    a. Fix the provided mounting plate to the wall using the screws. Ensure the location is suitable as per section 5.1.
    b. Carefully fit the gas detector unit onto the fixed plate, sliding it down until it clicks securely into place.
  2. Adhesive Tape Mounting (Optional):
    a. For a nail-free installation, you can use strong double-sided adhesive tape on the back of the detector. Ensure the wall surface is clean and dry.
    b. Press the detector firmly against the wall in the desired location. This method offers a simple and firm attachment.

5.3 Powering the Detector

The FD808L Gas Detector supports two power supply methods:

  • AC Power: Plug the detector directly into a standard AC 90V-240V (50-60Hz) power outlet.
  • Battery Backup: For continuous operation during power outages, install a 9V rechargeable battery (not included) into the battery compartment on the back of the unit. The detector will automatically switch to battery power if AC power is interrupted.

6. Operation

Once installed and powered, the gas detector will begin monitoring the air for combustible gases.

6.1 Indicator Lights and Display

The detector features three LED indicator lights and an LCD display:

  • POWER (Green LED): Illuminates when the device is receiving power and operating normally.
  • FAULT (Yellow LED): Flashes to indicate an equipment failure or sensor malfunction.
  • ALARM (Red LED): Flashes and activates the audible alarm when a gas leak is detected.
  • LCD Display: Shows the current gas concentration in PPM (Parts Per Million).

6.2 Alarm Conditions

  • When the gas concentration reaches 2500PPM (±1500PPM), the detector will activate the alarm.
  • The alarm consists of a flashing red LED, a loud 120 dB beep, and a clear voice reminder.
  • The alarm will continue until the gas concentration drops below the alarm threshold.

6.3 Test Button

Press the "PUSH TO TEST" button to manually test the alarm function. This will simulate an alarm condition and verify the sound, light, and voice prompts are working correctly.

7. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and accuracy of your gas detector.

  • Surface Cleaning: Clean the surface of the detector monthly to prevent dust buildup from obstructing the sensor or ventilation holes. Use a soft, dry cloth. Do not use detergents, sprays (like air fresheners or hair spray), or abrasive cleaners, as these can damage the sensor.
  • Specialist Inspection: It is recommended to have a specialist inspect the unit every six months to ensure optimal performance and calibration.
  • Battery Replacement: If using a 9V rechargeable battery, replace it when the low battery warning is indicated.

8. Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Detector not working after installationImpact or shock during transit/installation; power issue.Check power connection. If battery-powered, ensure battery is installed correctly and charged. Re-install the unit carefully. If problem persists, contact support.
Yellow FAULT LED flashesSensor malfunction or equipment failure.Ensure the unit is properly plugged in. If the fault persists after a power cycle, the sensor may be damaged. Contact support for assistance.
Low battery warning9V rechargeable battery is low.Replace the 9V rechargeable battery.
False alarmsInterference from sprays, strong air currents, or improper placement.Ensure no sprays are used near the detector. Relocate the detector away from strong drafts or direct heat sources. Clean the sensor area.

9. User Tips

  • Regular Testing: Press the 'PUSH TO TEST' button weekly to ensure the alarm functions correctly.
  • Optimal Placement: Remember that natural gas rises and propane sinks. Install your detector accordingly for the most effective detection.
  • Ventilation: In case of an alarm, immediately ventilate the area by opening windows and doors.
  • Emergency Protocol: Familiarize yourself with emergency procedures for gas leaks in your home or facility.
