6. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your KVM switch, please refer to the following common solutions:

  • No Display on Monitor:
    • Ensure all HDMI cables are securely connected to both the KVM switch and your computers/monitor.
    • Verify that the KVM switch is powered on and the correct PC input is selected (check LED indicators).
    • Try using different HDMI cables, especially high-quality HDMI 2.0 cables, as faulty or low-quality cables can cause display issues.
    • Ensure your monitor is set to the correct HDMI input source.
    • Restart the KVM switch and connected computers.
  • Keyboard/Mouse Not Responding:
    • Ensure your keyboard and mouse are plugged into the USB 3.0 ports on the front panel of the KVM switch.
    • Try plugging the keyboard/mouse directly into the computer to confirm they are working.
    • If using a wireless keyboard/mouse, ensure the receiver is plugged into one of the KVM's USB 3.0 ports.
    • Some specialized gaming keyboards/mice may require direct connection to the PC or may not be fully compatible with KVM switches.
  • USB Peripherals Not Detected or Malfunctioning:
    • For USB peripherals with high power requirements (e.g., external hard drives), it is recommended to use an independently powered USB HUB connected to one of the KVM's USB 3.0 ports.
    • Ensure the USB3.0 A-Type cables connecting the KVM to your PCs are securely connected and functioning correctly.
    • Try connecting the peripheral directly to the computer to verify its functionality.
  • Switching Delay or Unresponsive Desktop Controller:
    • Ensure the external desktop controller cable is securely plugged into the 'Control' port.
    • The recommended length for the external switching button cable is ≤1.5 meters to ensure a sensitive switching response. Using longer cables might affect responsiveness.
  • Intermittent Signal Loss or Flickering:
    • This can often be resolved by using certified high-quality HDMI 2.0 cables.
    • Ensure the total length of HDMI cables (input + output) does not exceed 5 meters for optimal signal integrity, especially at 4K@60Hz.
    • Check for any electromagnetic interference from other devices.

8. User Tips

  • Cable Quality: Always use high-quality HDMI 2.0 cables to ensure stable video signal transmission, especially for 4K@60Hz resolutions. Lower quality cables can lead to flickering or signal loss.
  • Power for USB Devices: If you are connecting USB peripherals that require significant power (e.g., portable hard drives), it is highly recommended to use an independently powered USB hub. Connect this powered hub to one of the KVM's USB 3.0 ports, and then connect your high-power devices to the hub.
  • Desktop Controller Placement: Position the external desktop controller within its recommended cable length (≤1.5 meters) for optimal and sensitive switching response.
  • System Compatibility: The KVM switch is broadly compatible with Windows, macOS, and Linux operating systems. No special drivers are typically required for basic functionality.
  • Organize Cables: To maintain a tidy workspace and prevent accidental disconnections, organize your cables using ties or sleeves.

9. Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your VPFET HDMI KVM Switch, follow these maintenance guidelines:

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the device. Avoid using liquid cleaners or abrasive materials, as they may damage the surface or internal components.
  • Ventilation: Ensure the KVM switch is placed in a well-ventilated area to prevent overheating. Do not block the ventilation holes.
  • Storage: When not in use for extended periods, store the device in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Cable Management: Avoid bending or kinking cables sharply, as this can damage the internal wires and affect performance.
