1. Product Overview

The IenRon 2.5G PoE Switch is an unmanaged Ethernet network switch designed for high-speed data transmission and Power over Ethernet (PoE) capabilities. It features 4x 2.5Gbps PoE+ ports and 2x 10Gbps SFP+ uplink ports, making it suitable for Wi-Fi 6/6e APs, 4K IP cameras, NAS, and other bandwidth-intensive devices. Its robust metal casing and fanless design ensure reliable and silent operation.

3. Setup Instructions

Follow these steps to set up your IenRon 2.5G PoE Switch:

  1. Connect Power:
    • Connect the power cable to the power adapter.
    • Plug the power adapter into a suitable electrical outlet.
    • Connect the DC output plug of the power adapter to the 'POWER' input port on the switch. The power indicator light on the switch should illuminate.
  2. Connect Network Devices:
    • For PoE-enabled devices (e.g., Wi-Fi APs, IP cameras), connect them to any of the 4x 2.5Gbps PoE ports (ports 1-4) using Cat6 or Cat6a Ethernet cables.
    • For non-PoE devices (e.g., computers, routers), connect them to any of the 4x 2.5Gbps PoE ports (ports 1-4) using standard Ethernet cables.
    • For high-speed uplink connections, insert compatible 1.25G/10G SFP or SFP+ modules (not included) into the 2x 10G SFP ports, then connect fiber optic cables or DAC cables as required. Note: 2.5G SFP modules are NOT supported.
  3. Verify Connections:
    • Once devices are connected, observe the indicator lights on the respective ports. A flashing light indicates a successful cable connection and equipment match.
  4. VLAN Configuration (Optional):
    • The switch features a VLAN switch (OFF/ON).
    • When the VLAN button is set to 'ON', ports 1-4 are isolated from each other and can only communicate with the uplink SFP fiber ports. This enhances security by preventing direct communication between connected devices on ports 1-4.
    • When the VLAN button is set to 'OFF', ports 1-4 can communicate with each other, allowing all connected devices to share data.

The IenRon 2.5G PoE Switch is an unmanaged device, meaning it operates with minimal configuration. Once powered on and connected, it automatically detects and provides power to compatible PoE devices and facilitates data transfer.

4.1. Power Over Ethernet (PoE) Functionality

The 4x 2.5Gbps RJ45 ports support IEEE 802.3af/at/bt standards, delivering up to 30W per port. This allows you to power devices like IP cameras, VoIP phones, and wireless access points directly through the Ethernet cable, simplifying installation and reducing cable clutter.

4.2. VLAN Mode

The VLAN switch allows you to control network segmentation:

  • VLAN ON: Ports 1-4 are isolated from each other. Devices connected to these ports can only communicate with the uplink SFP fiber ports, not with each other. This is useful for security-sensitive applications like surveillance systems where cameras should not communicate directly.
  • VLAN OFF: Ports 1-4 can communicate freely with each other and with the uplink SFP fiber ports. This is the standard operating mode for general network sharing.

5. Maintenance

To ensure optimal performance and longevity of your IenRon 2.5G PoE Switch, follow these maintenance guidelines:

  • Keep Clean: Regularly clean the exterior of the switch with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using liquid cleaners or solvents.
  • Ventilation: Ensure the switch is placed in a well-ventilated area. Although it features a fanless design with dual-flow heat dissipation, proper airflow is crucial to prevent overheating.
  • Cable Management: Keep network cables organized and free from kinks or excessive bends to prevent signal degradation.
  • Power Supply: Use only the provided power adapter or a compatible replacement with the correct voltage (DC48-55V) and wattage (65W).

6. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your switch, refer to the following troubleshooting tips:

  • No Power:
    • Check if the power adapter is securely connected to both the switch and the power outlet.
    • Verify that the power outlet is functional.
  • No Link Light:
    • Ensure Ethernet cables are securely plugged into both the switch and the connected device.
    • Try a different Ethernet cable to rule out cable failure.
    • Check if the connected device is powered on and functioning correctly.
    • For SFP ports, ensure the SFP module is correctly inserted and compatible (1.25G/10G, not 2.5G).
  • Device Not Receiving PoE Power:
    • Confirm that the connected device is PoE-compatible (IEEE 802.3af/at/bt).
    • Ensure the cable length does not exceed 100 meters for PoE++ over Cat6.
    • Check the total PoE budget (65W) to ensure it's not exceeded by all connected devices.
  • Devices Cannot Communicate (VLAN ON):
    • If devices on ports 1-4 cannot communicate with each other, check if the VLAN switch is set to 'ON'. In this mode, ports 1-4 are isolated. Set the VLAN switch to 'OFF' if you require direct communication between these ports.
  • Slow Network Speed:
    • Ensure you are using Cat6 or Cat6a Ethernet cables for 2.5Gbps connections.
    • Verify that connected devices and network cards support 2.5Gbps or 10Gbps speeds.
    • Check for network congestion or issues with your internet service provider.
