Setup Instructions
Initial Winding
As an automatic mechanical watch, the AM1970M is powered by the motion of your wrist. If the watch has stopped or is running low on power, it can be manually wound. Gently rotate the crown clockwise (approximately 20-30 turns) to initiate power reserve. The watch will then continue to wind itself with normal wear.
Setting Time and Date
The watch features a screw-down crown for enhanced water resistance. To adjust, first unscrew the crown counter-clockwise until it springs out to the neutral position.
- Set Date: Pull the crown out to the 1st position. Rotate the crown either clockwise or counter-clockwise to adjust the date. Avoid setting the date between 9 PM and 3 AM, as this is when the date change mechanism is engaged and could cause damage.
- Set Time: Pull the crown out to the 2nd position. Rotate the crown to adjust the hour and minute hands. Once the correct time is set, push the crown back in and screw it down tightly clockwise to ensure water resistance.

Adjusting the Rotating Inner Ring
The AM1970M features an internal rotating bezel, often used for dive timing. To adjust this, unscrew the second crown (usually located at 2 o'clock or 4 o'clock, depending on the model variant) and rotate it to align the desired marker with the minute hand. Once set, screw the crown back in tightly to maintain water resistance.

Operating Your Dive Watch
Water Resistance (200m / 20ATM)
The BERNY AM1970M is designed with a water resistance rating of 200 meters (20 ATM), making it suitable for professional marine activity and serious surface water sports, but not for saturation diving. Always ensure both crowns are fully screwed down before exposing the watch to water to prevent damage.

Super Luminous Display
The watch features Super Luminous material on its hands and hour markers, providing excellent readability in low-light conditions, including underwater. Exposure to light (natural or artificial) will charge the luminous elements.

Maintenance
Cleaning
To maintain the appearance of your watch, clean the case and strap regularly with a soft, damp cloth. For stainless steel bracelets, a soft brush can be used to remove dirt from between the links. For fluoroelastomer straps, mild soap and water can be used. Always rinse thoroughly and dry completely.
Water Exposure
After exposure to saltwater, rinse the watch thoroughly with fresh water to prevent corrosion, especially around the crowns and bezel. Ensure crowns are screwed down before rinsing.
Avoiding Magnetic Fields
Automatic mechanical watches can be affected by strong magnetic fields, which may cause them to run inaccurately. Keep your watch away from strong magnets, such as those found in speakers, refrigerators, and certain electronic devices.
Temperature Extremes
Avoid exposing your watch to extreme temperatures (hot or cold) or sudden temperature changes, as this can affect the movement's lubrication and accuracy.
Troubleshooting
Watch Not Running
- Insufficient Power Reserve: If the watch has not been worn or wound for an extended period, it may stop. Manually wind the watch by rotating the crown clockwise 20-30 times, then wear it regularly.
Inaccurate Timekeeping
- Low Power Reserve: An automatic watch may lose accuracy if its power reserve is low. Ensure it is fully wound by wearing it consistently or manually winding it.
- Exposure to Magnetic Fields: If the watch has been exposed to a strong magnetic field, it may become magnetized and run fast or slow. A watchmaker can demagnetize it.
- Impact: A severe impact can affect the movement. If accuracy issues persist after ensuring sufficient power and demagnetization, consult a professional watchmaker.
Water Inside the Watch
- If you notice condensation or water inside the watch, immediately take it to a professional watchmaker. Do not attempt to open the watch yourself. This usually indicates that the crown was not properly screwed down or a seal has failed.
User Tips
- For optimal accuracy, wear your automatic watch daily for at least 8-10 hours.
- Always double-check that both crowns are fully screwed down before any water exposure, even for hand washing.
- If you own multiple watches, consider a watch winder to keep your automatic watch running and accurate when not in use.
- The NH35 movement is known for its reliability and ease of service, making it a great choice for a daily wear dive watch.
