7. Operating Instructions

Watch the official product video for a visual guide on how to use the ANENG VD808:

Video 1: ANENG VD808 Multi-function Socket Analyzer Demonstration. This video demonstrates various functions including socket polarity detection, leakage trip test, breakpoint lookup, AC/DC voltage measurement, and continuity testing.

7.1 Socket Polarity Detection

Plug the VD808 into a standard wall socket. The device will automatically analyze the wiring and display the status on its screen. Refer to the diagram below for common wiring states:

Diagram illustrating various socket wiring conditions detected by the VD808, including correct, missing ground, missing neutral, reversed phase/neutral, phase/ground inversion, missing phase, and misplaced/missing.
Figure 3: Socket Polarity Detection States
  • Correct (display normal): Indicates proper wiring.
  • Missing ground wire (ground wire flashing): Ground connection is absent.
  • Missing naught line (naught line flashing): Neutral connection is absent.
  • The phase and naught line are reversed (Phase line and naught line flash at the same time): Live and neutral wires are swapped.
  • Phase and ground inversion (The phase line and the earth line flash at the same time): Live and ground wires are swapped.
  • Missing phase line (all flashing): Live connection is absent.
  • Misplaced and missing (The phase line and the earth line flash alternately): Indicates a complex wiring fault.

7.2 Leakage Trip Detection (RCD Test)

To test the RCD (Residual Current Device) functionality:

  1. Plug the VD808 into the socket.
  2. Ensure the wiring is correct (as indicated by polarity detection).
  3. Press the yellow 'RCD' button on the device.
  4. If the leakage protector is functioning normally, it will automatically trip the circuit breaker.
  5. If there is no trip, it indicates a fault in the leakage protection system, and professional line maintenance is required.

7.3 AC Voltage Measurement (NCV)

The VD808 can detect AC voltage without direct contact. Place the tip of the pen close to the voltage conductor. The device will indicate the presence of AC voltage and distinguish between live and neutral lines based on the signal strength and displayed voltage.

7.4 DC Voltage Measurement

To measure DC voltage, touch the test nib to the positive terminal of the battery and the finger contact point to the negative terminal. The device can also distinguish between positive and negative electrodes.

7.5 Line On/Off Detection (Breakpoint Lookup)

Use the VD808 to check the continuity of a wire. Move the test nib along the wire. The device will beep continuously if the wire is intact. The point where the beeping stops indicates a break in the line.

Image showing breakpoint lookup, where the device indicates a breakpoint in a wire by the absence of a signal.
