1. Introduction

The TASI TA612 series consists of professional digital thermocouple thermometers designed for accurate temperature measurement using K, J, and T type thermocouples. These devices offer various features including multi-channel measurement, data storage, and alarm functions. The series includes three distinct models:

  • TA612A: Single-channel thermometer
  • TA612B: Dual-channel thermometer
  • TA612C: Four-channel thermometer with USB communication for PC data export.

2. Package Contents

Upon unpacking, please verify that all standard accessories are present. The contents may vary slightly depending on the specific model (TA612A, TA612B, or TA612C).

3. Setup

3.1 Battery Installation

The device is powered by 3 x 1.5V AA (LR06) batteries (not included). To install or replace batteries:

  1. Locate the battery compartment cover on the back of the device.
  2. Open the cover.
  3. Insert three AA batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
  4. Close the battery compartment cover securely.

The device also supports external power supply via USB (for TA612C) or a compatible adapter.

3.2 Thermocouple Probe Connection

The TA612 series thermometers are compatible with universal K/J/T type thermocouple probes. Ensure probes are securely inserted into the appropriate jacks.

Various K/J/T type plugs can be used, which are designed for easy insertion and removal.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Panel Overview

Familiarize yourself with the device's control panel and display elements:

Key Elements:

  • K-type thermocouple probe jacks: For connecting probes.
  • Alarm indicator: Flashes during alarm conditions.
  • LCD screen: VA color screen with backlight, displays measurements and status.
  • TYPE K/J type switch: To select thermocouple type.
  • ADJ electronic compensation: For probe adjustment.
  • Power button: To turn the device ON/OFF.
  • H:M:S: Time display.
  • REC / Data hold button: To record data or hold current readings.
  • Max / Min buttons: To view maximum and minimum recorded temperatures.
  • Mode button: To cycle through different operating modes.
  • Unit switching button (°C/°F): To switch between Celsius and Fahrenheit.

4.2 Power On/Off and Auto Power Off

Press the Power button to turn the device ON or OFF. The device features an automatic power-off function after 15 minutes of inactivity to conserve battery life. This function can be manually canceled if continuous operation is required.

4.3 Basic Temperature Measurement

  1. Connect the thermocouple probe(s) to the appropriate channel jacks.
  2. Turn on the device.
  3. Select the correct thermocouple type (K, J, or T) using the TYPE switch if applicable.
  4. The current temperature will be displayed on the LCD screen for each active channel.

4.4 Unit Switching (°C/°F)

Press the °C/°F button to toggle between Celsius and Fahrenheit temperature units.

4.5 Data Hold and Max/Min Functions

  • Data Hold: Press the REC / HOLD button briefly to freeze the current reading on the display. Press again to release.
  • Max/Min: Press the MAX/MIN button to cycle through maximum, minimum, and current readings.

4.6 Alarm Function

The device allows setting upper and lower temperature limits. If the measured temperature exceeds these limits, a buzzer alarm will sound, and the alarm indicator light will flash.

4.7 Data Storage and PC Connection (TA612C Only)

The TA612A/B models can record up to 9999 groups of data, while the TA612C model can record 5000 groups. The TA612C model also features a USB interface for connecting to a PC.

For the TA612C, connect the device to a computer using the provided USB cable. This allows for exporting recorded data, viewing real-time data sheets, and generating charts using the dedicated PC software.

5. Maintenance

5.1 Cleaning

Wipe the device with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents. Ensure the device is dry before storage or next use.

5.2 Battery Replacement

Replace batteries when the low battery indicator appears on the display to ensure accurate readings and proper device function. Refer to section 3.1 for battery installation instructions.

5.3 Storage

When not in use for extended periods, remove the batteries to prevent leakage. Store the device in a cool, dry place within the specified storage environment: -10°C to 50°C (14°F to 122°F) with maximum 70% relative humidity.

6. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your TASI TA612 series thermometer, please refer to the following common troubleshooting steps:

  • No display or device not turning on: Check battery installation and ensure batteries have sufficient charge. Try replacing with new batteries. For TA612C, try connecting via USB power.
  • Inaccurate readings: Ensure thermocouple probes are correctly inserted and are of the appropriate type (K, J, or T). Check for any visible damage to the probes. Perform ADJ compensation if necessary.
  • Alarm not functioning: Verify that upper and lower alarm limits are set correctly.
  • USB connection issues (TA612C): Ensure the USB cable is securely connected to both the device and the PC. Check if the PC software is installed correctly and drivers are up to date.
