Setup
Battery Charging
The F8 is equipped with a 3.7V Li-ion rechargeable battery pack. To charge, connect the AC/DC wall adaptor to a mains power socket and insert the jack into the desktop charger plug. A full recharge typically takes 4-5 hours. For maximum battery life, it is recommended to charge the battery pack when the F8 is off and fully discharged.
- Ensure the radio is off during charging for optimal battery life.
- Only use the specified battery charger to avoid damage to your device.

Operation
Power On/Off and Volume Adjustment
Rotate the Power/Volume knob clockwise to turn the radio on and adjust the volume. Rotate counter-clockwise until you hear a mechanical “click” to turn the radio off.
Transmission
To communicate, ensure all radios in your group are set to the same channel. Briefly press Side key 1 to enable the Monitor feature and check if the frequency is clear. Then, press the PTT button to transmit and release to receive. Only one user can transmit at a time. Transmit sparingly to conserve battery life.
Monitor Function
Hold down Side key 1 to open the Squelch and listen for weak signals that might otherwise be suppressed.
Scan Function
This function is activated via optional programming software. If enabled, and all 16 channels are programmed, turning on the radio on channel 16 will start scanning. Scanning stops on a busy channel. Pressing PTT will transmit on the last busy channel. Channel 16 is the priority channel for transmission if no signal is detected.
Squelch
The Squelch function suppresses noise on free channels. The BF-V8 has 10 Squelch levels (0-9) configurable via programming software. Level 0 means Squelch is off. Levels 1-9 offer increasing noise reduction. The default Squelch level is 4. Avoid excessively high Squelch levels, as this may prevent receiving weaker signals. An excessively low Squelch may open even when no signals are present.
CTCSS/DCS Tones
CTCSS and DCS tones act as access codes, allowing communication only with users on the same channel with the same code. Up to 50 CTCSS tones and 210 DCS codes can be set per channel via programming software. This prevents interference from other stations using the same frequency but different tones.
Flashlight
With the F8 turned on, short press Side key 2 to toggle the flashlight on or off.
Prompt Voice Switch Settings
To turn the prompt voice on or off, select the 10th channel, then press and hold the PTT and Side Key 1 while turning on the radio. When prompt voice is on, you will hear voice prompts for operations. When off, only a "beep" prompt will sound.
Emergency Alert Function
If pre-programmed into Side Key 1 via CPS programming software, short press Side Key 1 to activate the alarm function. Press Side Key 1 again to release the emergency alarm status.
VOX (Voice Activated Transmit)
The VOX feature enables hands-free conversations without pressing PTT. Speak into the microphone to automatically activate transmission. VOX sensitivity can be adjusted in 5 levels (1-5) via programming software. Level 2 is the default, with 5 being the lowest sensitivity.
Quick Operation Radio (PTT + Side Key 1 Combinations)
Without CPS programming software, you can perform the following quick operations:
- Channels 1-5: Press and hold PTT + Side Key 1 while turning on the radio to toggle VOX function on/off. Voice prompts will indicate "VOX ON" or "VOX OFF". VOX sensitivity levels 1-5 (1 is highest, 5 is lowest).
- Channel 10: Press and hold PTT + Side Key 1 while turning on the radio to toggle prompt voice function on/off.
- Channel 15: Press and hold PTT + Side Key 1 while turning on the radio to switch the prompt language between Chinese and English.
Maintenance
Battery Precautions
To ensure safety and prolong battery life, observe the following:
Charging Prohibitions:
- Do not charge or replace batteries in areas with fuels, chemicals, explosive atmospheres, or other flammable materials.
- Do not charge a wet battery; dry it with a soft, clean cloth first.
- Do not charge a battery that is deformed, leaking, or overheating.
- Do not charge with an unauthorized charger.
- Do not charge in locations with strong radiation.
- Avoid overcharging, as it shortens battery life.
Maintenance Instructions:
- Clean charging connectors regularly with a dry cloth to prevent charging issues.
- Charge batteries between 5℃~40℃. Charging outside this range may reduce battery life or cause leakage.
- If charging a battery attached to the product, turn it off for a full charge.
- Do not remove the battery or unplug the power cord during charging.
- Do not dispose of batteries in fire.
- Do not expose batteries to direct sunlight or place near heating sources.
- Do not squeeze, penetrate, or remove the battery housing.
Care and Safety
To ensure your F8 functions optimally for many years, follow these suggestions:
- Do not attempt to open the unit. Non-expert handling can damage it and void the warranty.
- When using a regulated power supply, ensure the voltage is 5V to avoid damage.
- High temperatures can shorten the life of electronic devices and warp plastics.
- Store the radio in clean, dust-free areas.
- Keep the radio dry. Rainwater or dampness will corrode electronic circuits.
- If the radio emits a peculiar smell or smoke, immediately shut off power and remove the battery/charger.
- Do not transmit without an antenna.
- Clean the radio with a soft, water-dampened cloth. Do not use cleaners or solvents.
- Use a dry, lint-free cloth to clean battery contacts.
Troubleshooting Guide
If you encounter issues with your BF-V8, refer to the table below for common problems and solutions. If problems persist, contact your dealer for technical support.
| Phenomena | Analysis | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Cannot turn on the radio. | Battery improperly installed, power run out, poor battery contact, low battery voltage. | Remove and reattach battery, recharge/replace battery, clean battery contacts. |
| Weak or intermittent voice during receiving. | Low volume, loose/incorrectly installed antenna, blocked speaker. | Increase volume, turn off radio and reattach antenna, clean speaker surface. |
| Cannot communicate with other group members. | Inconsistent frequency/signaling type, too far from other members. | Verify TX/RX frequency and signaling type, move closer to other members. |
| Hear unknown voices or noise. | Interrupted by radios on same frequency, analog mode without signaling. | Change frequency, adjust squelch level, request dealer to set signaling. |
| Unable to hear anyone due to too much noise/hiss. | Too far from other members, unfavorable position (blocked by buildings), external disturbance. | Move closer, move to open/flat area, restart radio, stay away from interference. |
| Radio keeps transmitting. | VOX turned on, headset not installed correctly. | Turn off VOX function, check headset installation. |
