4.3. Connecting to Your Computer
- Connect the power adapter to the enclosure's AC port and plug it into a power outlet.
- Connect the appropriate USB data cable (Type-C for FS4C3/FS5C3, Type-B for other models) from the enclosure to your computer.
- Flip the power switch on the back of the enclosure to the 'ON' position.
5. Operating Instructions
5.1. RAID Mode Configuration (For RAID-enabled models: FS2RU3, FS4RU3, FS5RU3)
The Yottamaster FS Series RAID enclosures offer 7 kinds of hardware RAID modes for flexible data management. Please refer to the table below for an overview of each mode. For non-RAID versions, RAID setup must be done via your operating system's tools (e.g., Disk Utility on Mac OS).

7 Kinds of Hardware RAID Modes.
How to Set RAID Mode:
- Step 1: Power the enclosure OFF.
- Step 2: Toggle the RAID control DIP switches on the back panel to the desired pattern matching your chosen RAID configuration (refer to the table above and the enclosure's back panel diagram).
- Step 3: Press and hold the 'SET' button. While holding the 'SET' button, press and release the 'Power' button to turn the enclosure ON. You should hear one beep. Keep holding the 'SET' button until you hear a second beep.
- Step 4: Release the 'SET' button. The RAID mode is now configured.
- Step 5: Power the enclosure OFF and then ON again for the changes to take full effect.
RAID Mode Descriptions:
- RAID 0 (Striping): Combines drives for optimal performance and maximum speed. Data is striped across drives, offering no redundancy. Requires at least 2 disks.
- RAID 1 (Mirroring): Mirrors data across two drives, providing a reliable backup for important data. Offers high security but reduces usable capacity by 50%. Requires at least 2 disks.
- RAID 5: Provides data protection against single disk failure while offering good speed and capacity. Data is striped with parity across multiple drives. Requires at least 3 disks.
- RAID 10: Combines the data security of RAID 1 with the high-speed read/write of RAID 0. Requires at least 4 disks.
- JBOD (Just a Bunch Of Disks): Treats each drive as an independent disk.
- CLONE: Creates an exact copy of one drive onto another.
- SPAN (Concatenation): Combines multiple drives into a single large volume. Data is written sequentially to each drive. Requires at least 2 disks.
- Normal (PM Mode): Allows you to see and use each disk independently.
5.2. Intelligent Sleep Function
The enclosure features an intelligent sleep function that activates after 10 minutes of data inactivity to reduce heat and prolong drive lifespan. The indicator lights on the front panel will show the status of each disk:
- Blue light: Power on.
- Blue light flashing: Reading & writing data.
- Red light: Hard drive error.
Cancelling Auto-Sleep Function:
For Windows System:
- Visit the official Yottamaster website (yottamaster.com).
- Navigate to 'Home >> Let us Help you >> Software & Manual & Firmware'.
- Find the firmware named 'FS4C3 FS5C3--Cancel Auto-sleep Function'.
- Download the file and follow the detailed step-by-step instructions within the downloaded package to complete the firmware update.
For Mac System:
Firmware for Mac systems to cancel auto-sleep is currently under development. Mac users can use third-party software such as Amphetamine, KeepAliveHD, or Prevent Disk Sleep. These applications can be configured to write a small (e.g., 1kb) noted file to your drive every 5 minutes, preventing the device from entering sleep mode.

6. Maintenance
Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your Yottamaster enclosure and the drives within it.
- Cleaning: Regularly clean the exterior of the enclosure with a soft, dry cloth. Ensure the fan vents are free from dust and debris to maintain efficient cooling. Do not use liquid cleaners directly on the device.
- Firmware Updates: Check the official Yottamaster website periodically for any available firmware updates. Firmware updates can improve performance, add features, or resolve known issues. Follow the provided instructions carefully when performing updates.
- Environmental Conditions: Operate the enclosure in a well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight, excessive heat, moisture, and strong electromagnetic fields.
- Cable Management: Ensure all cables are securely connected and not under strain. Loose connections can lead to data transfer issues or power interruptions.
7. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your Yottamaster FS Series enclosure, please refer to the following common problems and solutions:
7.1. Hard Drive Not Recognized
- Check Connections: Ensure the hard drives are correctly seated in their trays and the trays are fully inserted into the enclosure. Verify that the USB data cable and power cable are securely connected.
- Power On: Confirm the enclosure is powered on and the power indicator light is blue.
- Drive Health: Test the hard drives individually in another enclosure or directly connected to a computer to rule out drive failure.
- RAID Configuration (RAID models): If using a RAID-enabled model, ensure the RAID mode is correctly configured and initialized. Incorrect RAID settings can prevent drives from being recognized.
- Driver Issues: Ensure your computer's operating system has the necessary USB drivers installed. Try connecting to a different USB port or computer.
7.2. Slow Data Transfer Speeds
- USB Port: Ensure you are connected to a USB 3.0 or USB 3.1 Gen2 port on your computer for optimal speeds. Older USB 2.0 ports will significantly limit performance.
- Cable Quality: Use the provided high-quality USB cable. Damaged or low-quality cables can affect transfer speeds.
- Drive Performance: The speed of your hard drives (HDD vs. SSD, RPM for HDDs) will impact overall transfer rates.
- UASP Support: Ensure your operating system and USB controller support UASP (USB Attached SCSI Protocol) for improved performance.
- RAID Mode (RAID models): RAID 0 offers the highest speed, while other RAID modes might have different performance characteristics due to data redundancy.
7.3. Enclosure Enters Sleep Mode Unexpectedly
- The enclosure is designed to enter sleep mode after 10 minutes of inactivity. If you wish to disable this feature, please refer to the
