Setup
1. Battery Installation
The device requires a 9 Volt battery. Locate the battery compartment on the back of the meter. Open the compartment cover, insert the 9 Volt battery, ensuring correct polarity, and close the cover securely.
2. Initial Power On
Press the Power (U) button to turn on the device. The LCD display will illuminate and show the current settings or a default reading.
3. Setting Wood Density (for scan-type meters like KT-50, KT-60, KT-508, KT-510, KT-506)
Different wood types have different densities, which affects moisture readings. It is crucial to set the correct density for accurate measurements. Refer to the wood density chart (often provided with the device or available online) for your specific wood type.
- On models like KT-50, KT-50B, KT-508, KT-506, KT-510, use the Density switch or SET button to cycle through the density groups (e.g., 1-5 or 1-8).
- For KT-60, use the DST + and DST - buttons to adjust the density setting.
- Typical density ranges are provided in the specifications section.

4. Setting Thickness (for models like KT-70, KT-80)
For models that allow thickness adjustment, such as the KT-70 and KT-80, use the appropriate buttons (e.g., THK mm on KT-60, if applicable, or dedicated buttons on other models) to set the thickness of the material being measured. The typical range is 10-60mm.
Operating Instructions
1. Taking a Measurement (Scan-Type Meters)
- Ensure the correct wood density setting is selected.
- Place the sensor plate (usually on the back of the device) flat against the surface of the wood.
- Hold the meter steady. The device will typically provide a reading within 1 second.
- The scanning depth is approximately 50mm. For thicker materials, take multiple readings at different depths if possible, or use a pin-type meter.
- Read the moisture content percentage (%) directly from the LCD display.

2. Taking a Measurement (Pin-Type Meters, e.g., KT-R, KT-80)
- Carefully insert the pins into the wood surface. Ensure good contact.
- Read the moisture content percentage (%) from the display.
- Be aware that pin-type meters leave small holes in the material.
3. Temperature Measurement (KT-60)
On models like the KT-60, press the TMP °C button to display the ambient temperature. Press it again to return to moisture measurement mode.
4. Power Off
Press and hold the Power (U) button to turn off the device. Some models may have an auto-off feature to conserve battery life.
Maintenance
1. Cleaning
Wipe the device with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents, as these can damage the casing or display. Ensure the sensor plate is clean and free of debris for accurate readings.
2. Battery Replacement
When the battery indicator shows low power, replace the 9 Volt battery promptly to ensure continued accurate operation. Refer to the "Battery Installation" section for instructions.
3. Storage
Store the moisture meter in a dry, cool place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. If storing for an extended period, remove the battery to prevent leakage.
Troubleshooting
- Device does not power on: Check if the battery is correctly installed and fully charged. Replace the battery if necessary.
- Inaccurate readings:
- Ensure the correct wood density setting is selected for the material being measured.
- Verify that the sensor plate is clean and making full contact with the surface.
- Avoid measuring over metal objects or areas with high moisture content from external sources (e.g., condensation).
- For pin-type meters, ensure pins are fully inserted and making good contact.
- Display issues (e.g., dim, flickering): Replace the battery. If the issue persists, contact support.

User Tips
- For best accuracy, allow the meter to acclimate to the ambient temperature of the wood before taking readings.
- Take multiple readings across different areas of the wood surface to get a comprehensive understanding of the moisture distribution.
- When measuring wood flooring, ensure the subfloor is also dry to prevent moisture migration.
- Always refer to the specific density settings for the type of wood you are measuring. Incorrect density settings are a common cause of inaccurate readings.
