1. Introduction
The FOXWELL ST203 Automotive EVAP Smoke Machine Leak Detector is a professional diagnostic tool designed to quickly and accurately locate leaks in various automotive systems. Featuring a built-in air pump, dual testing modes, and an adjustable flow meter, this device simplifies the process of identifying leaks in pipes and components, ensuring efficient vehicle maintenance and repair.

2. Key Features
- Built-in Air Pump: Eliminates the need for an external air compressor, making the device more portable and convenient. Generates smoke in seconds.
- Dual Mode Test: Offers both Air Mode (for pressurizing and listening for leaks) and Smoke Mode (for visual leak detection).
- Pressure Gauge: Monitors total system pressure, allowing for quick assessment of leak severity (No Leak, Small Leak, Massive Leak).
- Adjustable Flow Meter: Features an adjustable button to control the smoke output flow (output flow: <7L/Min).
- Variable Frequency Operation: Utilizes advanced technology for prolonged equipment lifespan, maintenance at safe temperatures, and extended operating hours with precise temperature control (0.5°).
- Fast Smoke Output: Produces smoke within 10 seconds, significantly reducing diagnostic time.

3. Package Contents
The FOXWELL ST203 package includes the following items:

- Main Unit
- Power Cords
- Smoke Tube
- Hook
- Funnel
- Air Drum Rubber
- Inflatable Adapter
- Intake Adapter Cone
- Cap Stoppers (23pcs)
- User Manual
4. Setup Instructions
Before operating the FOXWELL ST203, follow these steps to set up the device:
- Pour in Baby Oil:
Unscrew the oil filler cap on the main unit. Use the provided funnel to carefully pour approximately 20ml of mineral oil-based baby oil (e.g., Johnson & Johnson Pink bottle) into the oil filler. Do not overfill; ensure the liquid level does not exceed the MAX line on the liquid level window. Adding too much test oil may cause oil spraying.
Video 1: Demonstrates pouring baby oil into the smoke machine and checking the liquid level. - Connect the Machine:
Attach the smoke tube to the "Smoke Vent" port and the power cords to the "DC12V" input on the main unit. Secure the hook to the top of the unit for hanging during operation.
- Attach Intake Adapter Cone:
Depending on the system being tested, attach the appropriate intake adapter cone to the vehicle's intake system or other pipe openings.
- Connect Power:
Connect the red clamp of the power cord to the positive (+) terminal of a fully charged 12V vehicle battery and the black clamp to the negative (-) terminal. The Power LED on the unit should illuminate.
5. Operating Instructions for Leak Detection
Follow these steps to perform a leak test on your vehicle's systems:
- Prepare the Vehicle:
Turn OFF the ignition of the vehicle. Leak tests of vehicle systems require the engine to be off. Dismantle the air filter and throttle connections as needed. Clean the inner wall of the intake opening to avoid sharp objects and insert the Universal Intake Adapter into the opening.
- Initiate Air Mode:
Introduce the smoke nozzle into the system via the Adapter Cone. Press the "Air Control Switch" (usually indicated by a green light). Wait for approximately 30 seconds until the system is pressurized. Observe the Pressure Gauge and Flow Meter for initial readings.
- Activate Smoke Mode:
Press the "Smoke Control Switch" (usually indicated by a red light). Unplug and plug back the smoke nozzle into the Cone Adapter when obvious smoke comes out of the smoke nozzle. The system will be ready for leak checking in about 2 minutes.
- Locate Leaks:
Use a bright light torch or working lamp to assist in locating leaks. Smoke will visibly escape from any cracks, loose connections, or damaged components.

Figure 6: Visual representation of common vehicle leak issues that can be diagnosed with the ST203. - Conclude Test:
After completing the test, press the "Smoke Control Switch" again to stop smoke generation, and then press the "Air Control Switch" to stop generating pressurized air.
- Storage:
Collect the Smoke Hose and Power Cord with the Velcro Straps for storage. Hang the unit or make it stand in an UPRIGHT position only. Do NOT lay it down.
6. Assessing Extent of Leakage
The built-in pressure gauge helps determine the severity of a leak:
- No Leak: The value of the pressure gauge remains unchanged.
- Small Leak: The value of the pressure gauge drops gradually.
- Massive Leak: The value of the pressure gauge quickly drops to zero.

7. Wide Range of Applications
The FOXWELL ST203 is suitable for a broad spectrum of vehicles and systems, including:
- Vehicle Types: All domestic cars, motorcycles, snowmobiles, off-road vehicles, ATVs, light trucks, and speedboats.
- Systems for Leak Detection:
- Engine System
- Fuel Tank System
- Exhaust System
- EGR System
- Crankcase System
- Turbo System
- Intake System
- EVAP System
- Car Sealing Test

8. Maintenance
8.1 Smoke Oil Selection and Filling
- The equipment is compatible with mineral oil-based baby oil, such as Johnson & Johnson Pink bottle. Pure #5 white oil is the best choice if available.
- When using the detector for the first time, fill with approximately 20ml of oil. Do not exceed this range.
- Fresh oil should only be added when the smoke output becomes thin. Do not add more than 20ml at a time.
- Before refilling with fresh oil, pour out any remaining old oil from the detector. It is recommended to replace the detector oil regularly to maintain optimal performance.
- Do not fill the test oil completely to avoid oil leakage and splashing. Pour in only about two-thirds of the test oil capacity.
9. Troubleshooting and Cautions
- Operator Knowledge: The operator should have basic knowledge about vehicle structure and engines. Refer to the vehicle service book when necessary.
- Operating Environment: To ensure accurate test results, operate the device in an area with no wind.
- Smoke-Sensitive Components: Do NOT use the product on smoke-sensitive components (e.g., headlight housings), as smoke residual might reduce their sharpness.
- Oil Level: Always check the oil level before use. If the oil level is lower than the middle of the gauge, refill it, but do not overfill beyond the MAX line.
- Power Supply: The product is only to be used when the vehicle's ignition is OFF. Ensure you use a fully charged 12V vehicle battery, and the voltage is not lower than 12V.
- Visibility: Use a bright light torch or halogen lamp to help find leaks, especially in dimly lit areas.
- Safety Gear: Wear safety goggles during operation.
- Continuous Operation: Do NOT run the detector continuously for more than 8 minutes. It requires interval rest to prevent overheating.
- Overheat Protection: The detector has an intelligent protector that will automatically shut off power if the temperature exceeds 75°C. Allow the unit to cool down before resuming operation.
- Hot Parts: The round part of this detector generates heat; be careful to avoid burns.
- Disconnected Pipes: If a test pipe needs to be disconnected in the middle of a test, secure the other side with a rubber stopple to maintain pressure.
