4. Setup Instructions

Follow these steps to set up your ORIVISION OH601 HDMI Fiber Extender:

  1. Power Off Devices: Ensure all devices (source, display, and extender units) are powered off before making any connections.
  2. Connect Transmitter: Connect your HDMI source device (e.g., PC, media player) to the HDMI In port of the OH601-T Transmitter unit using a high-quality HDMI cable.
  3. Connect Receiver: Connect your HDMI display device (e.g., TV, monitor) to the HDMI Out port of the OH601-R Receiver unit using a high-quality HDMI cable.
  4. Connect Fiber Optic Cable: Connect a single-mode, single-core LC fiber optic cable between the 'Out' port of the Transmitter unit and the 'In' port of the Receiver unit. Ensure the fiber cable is securely seated. For multimode SFP modules, use a multimode fiber cable.
  5. Connect Power: Connect the provided DC 12V power adapters to both the Transmitter and Receiver units, then plug them into a power outlet.
  6. Power On Devices: Power on the display device, then the HDMI source device, and finally the extender units.

LED Indicators:

  • PWR (Power): Illuminates when the unit is receiving power.
  • SYS (System): Indicates system status. A steady light usually means the system is operating correctly.
  • FIBER: Indicates the status of the fiber optic link. A steady light typically means a stable fiber connection.
  • EDID (Transmitter): Indicates EDID status.
  • STUDY (Transmitter): May indicate EDID learning or other operational status.
  • TV (Receiver): Indicates HDMI signal output to the display.

RS232 Control:

The OH601 supports bidirectional RS232 transmission via its Phoenix Port. This allows for remote control of devices connected to either end of the extender. The default baud rate is 9600bps, with 8 data bits. Refer to your RS232 controlled device's manual for specific commands and configurations.

6. Maintenance

To ensure optimal performance and longevity of your OH601 HDMI Fiber Extender, follow these maintenance guidelines:

  • Cleaning: Keep the units and connectors clean. Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the exterior. For optical fiber connectors, use specialized fiber optic cleaning tools to prevent signal degradation.
  • Cable Management: Ensure all cables (HDMI, fiber, power) are not bent sharply, pinched, or under excessive tension. Proper cable management helps prevent damage and maintains signal integrity.
  • Ventilation: Ensure the units have adequate ventilation to prevent overheating. Do not block the ventilation holes.
  • Power: Always use the provided DC 12V1A power adapters. Disconnect power when the units are not in use for extended periods or during electrical storms.
  • Environment: Operate the units within the specified temperature (-20 ~ +60° C) and humidity (5 ~ 90 %) ranges. Avoid exposure to extreme conditions, dust, and moisture.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your OH601 HDMI Fiber Extender, please refer to the following troubleshooting steps:

  • No Video/Audio Output:
    • Verify that both the Transmitter and Receiver units are powered on and their PWR LEDs are illuminated.
    • Check all HDMI cable connections between the source, Transmitter, Receiver, and display. Ensure they are securely plugged in.
    • Inspect the fiber optic cable for any damage or sharp bends. Ensure it is correctly connected to the 'Out' port on the Transmitter and 'In' port on the Receiver.
    • Confirm that the FIBER LED on both units is steady, indicating a stable fiber link.
    • Ensure the HDMI source and display are set to the correct input/output.
    • Try a different HDMI cable or fiber optic cable to rule out cable issues.
    • Reduce the resolution of the source device to see if a signal is established.
  • Poor Picture Quality (Flickering, Distortion):
    • Check the quality of your HDMI and fiber optic cables. Low-quality or damaged cables can cause signal degradation.
    • Ensure the resolution and refresh rate of your source device are supported by the extender and display (up to 4K@30Hz).
    • Verify that the fiber optic connection is clean and free of dust.
  • RS232 Control Not Working:
    • Ensure the RS232 cables are correctly wired and connected to the Phoenix ports.
    • Verify the baud rate and other serial communication settings match between the control device and the OH601.
    • Check the RS232 settings on the controlled devices.
  • Units Not Powering On:
    • Ensure the power adapters are securely connected to the units and a working power outlet.
    • Test the power adapters with another device if possible, or try a different power outlet.

8. User Tips

  • Cable Quality: Always use high-quality HDMI cables (preferably HDMI 1.4 or higher) and fiber optic cables to ensure optimal performance, especially for 4K resolutions over long distances.
  • Fiber Type: Ensure you are using the correct type of fiber optic cable (single-mode or multimode) that matches the SFP modules installed in your extender units. The default is single-mode.
  • EDID Management: The extender handles EDID automatically. If you experience display issues, ensure your source device is outputting a resolution supported by your display and the extender.
  • Power Cycle: If you encounter intermittent issues, try power cycling all connected devices (source, extender units, display) in sequence: display first, then source, then extender.
  • RS232 Integration: For advanced users, the bidirectional RS232 port can be integrated into home automation or professional AV control systems for seamless device management.
