1. Introduction
The TASI TA650A Digital Sound Level Noise Meter is an environmental sound level instrument designed for accurate measurement of sound levels. It is suitable for a wide range of applications, including factories, workshops, schools, residential areas, offices, traffic roads, and audio testing environments.

3.1 Key Components

- Windshield: Protects the microphone and reduces wind noise.
- LCD Screen: Displays measurement values and settings.
- Backlight: Illuminates the screen for better visibility.
- F/S Button: Switches between FAST and SLOW time weighting.
- HOLD Button: Freezes the current reading on the display.
- MAX Button: Displays the maximum measured value.
- MIN Button: Displays the minimum measured value.
- Power Button: Turns the device on/off.
4. Setup
4.1 Battery Installation
The TASI TA650A requires 2 x 1.5V AAA (R03/LR03) batteries (not included). Follow these steps to install the batteries:
- Locate the battery compartment on the back of the device.
- Open the battery compartment cover.
- Insert two AAA batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
- Close the battery compartment cover securely.

5. Operation
5.1 Power On/Off
- Press the Power button (
) to turn the device on. - Press and hold the Power button to turn the device off.
- The device features an automatic power-off function after 15 minutes of inactivity to conserve battery life. This function can be disabled if continuous measurement is required.
5.2 Taking Measurements
Once powered on, the meter will immediately begin measuring sound levels. Hold the meter with the microphone pointed towards the sound source.

5.3 Time Weighting (FAST/SLOW)
The time weighting function allows you to select how the meter responds to changes in sound level:
- Press the F/S button to switch between FAST and SLOW response times.
- FAST (0.125s): Suitable for measuring rapidly changing noise levels.
- SLOW (1s): Suitable for measuring average noise levels or when the sound level is relatively stable.

5.4 MAX/MIN Hold Function
To capture the maximum or minimum sound level during a measurement period:
- Press the MAX button to hold the maximum value recorded since the function was activated.
- Press the MIN button to hold the minimum value recorded since the function was activated.
- Press the respective button again to exit the MAX/MIN hold mode.

5.5 Data Hold Function
To freeze the current reading on the display:
- Press the HOLD button. The current reading will remain on the screen.
- Press the HOLD button again to release the hold and resume live measurements.
5.6 Backlight
The screen backlight can be activated for better visibility in dark environments. Refer to the device's specific button layout for the backlight activation button (often integrated with another function or a dedicated light button).

7. User Tips
- Optimal Placement: For accurate readings, ensure the microphone is unobstructed and pointed directly at the sound source. Avoid placing the meter too close to reflective surfaces.
- Wind Noise: Use the included windshield, especially in outdoor environments, to minimize inaccuracies caused by wind.
- Battery Life: Always remove batteries if the device will not be used for an extended period to prevent leakage and damage.
- Environmental Conditions: Operate the meter within the specified working environment temperature and humidity ranges for reliable performance.
8. Maintenance
- Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the meter. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Storage: Store the device in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Remove batteries if storing for long periods.

- No Display/Device Not Turning On: Check if the batteries are installed correctly and have sufficient charge. Replace with new batteries if necessary.
- Inaccurate Readings: Ensure the microphone is clean and unobstructed. Verify that the device is being used within its specified operating environment. Check for any physical damage to the microphone.
- Buttons Unresponsive: Try removing and reinserting the batteries. If the issue persists, contact customer support.
